yopo preparation

ok, ive looked, and looked, and looked, and cannot find a clear, difinitive instruction guide for yopo seeds to make the indian snuff.
I know you use 'lime' and cook the seeds in a pan until the pop. 3-4 parts seed to 1 part 'lime'.
Now my main question is what kind of 'lime', i have garden grade hydrated lime, but my instincts tell me not to snort this, so any help would be appreciated.

The best is edible lime.. Lab Grade... you can use baking soda if you must but its not as effective. The secret is in getting the ratio perfect.. peeling the seed coat off and taking that out of the equation also potentiates it.

wise instincts! you should use edible lime or edible hydrated lime or lab grade lime... or actually nothing, yopo is not always made with lime i believe! anyways, did you already make a search on yopo preparation here in the EG? it was discussed many many times, there's a pile of info lying somewhere about it... if you don't find it, come back and i'll pull out a violent recipe for you...

wow, this was the best question i've ever seen about yopo. no, it's not really good. it is actually painful and we don't know why we come back. i'm serious, this is a shaman tool, it takes a long time for one to master it (if that much) and it is rather hard to break through without the help of other allies (caapi/rue)... but if you're looking for a deep 'toy', this is a good one.

Yopo is far from enjoyable.. It's actually extremely painful and you feel like shit afterwards. I've known a lot of people to get really bad nausea and vertigo for the next day or so. As felixhigh has described it, it's like getting punched in the face by a professional boxer.
Do'nt forget that you can take shells (sea shells/snail shells) and powder them and toast the powder to a calcined material, and use this with the snuff.. This is the traditional way.
A lot of people claim smoking it is good and there actually is historical evidence that this was done traditionally.

hmmm... shamen we are
its normally my first instinct about something (plant/drug) that im unfamiliar with is to find out if its "good" or not. but i know there are many different attributes that are much more involved and important, when it comes down to tea time.
i enjoy everyones posts! and thanks for putting up with me.

The lime's purpose is solubility. It makes the active chemicals soluble in the mocous membranes in your nose... The reason why you toast the seeds is because these tryptamine are not water soluble.. Its sort of a primitive purification process.

Fuck baking soda. I would recomend wood ash. I haven't gone with the lime yet, but I would prefer to cook and crush snail shells instead. It just seems more "authentic"

I heard?.
Crush snail shells burnt 2 ash works very well. You need a lot of heat though!!! Also if your dry the yopo powered in the oven for a few hours (low heat) after grinding... then mix with the snail shells powder and grand for a second time you will end up with a finer power which is easy to consume.

actually, yopo has some good proprieties... any rather well made yopo (without MAOI) should easily relax all your body muscles and frequently puts one to sleep. other than that, you'll feel like you're underwater at high pressure because of the muscle relaxation... i find it GREAT for sore muscles, pain from exercise/work. by the time one is in the letargo, before sleeping some insights MIGHT take place, even some views and concepts (yeah, ambiguous and abstract i know)... after sleeping, wonderful dream take place... their context will vary relatively to your focus, vivid dreams are the worst hypothesis. one wakes up renewed... i have never felt annoying nausea with yopo... nor effects on the following day...
