I've bought this from ebay in the past, but can't see any listed at the moment. Might be worth keeping an eye out.

Haha I guess so. I picked up a bag of the oats you linked to a few weeks back now, had a nightmare first run... Could I ask what prep you've been doing with them? I did no soak, 45 min(ish) boil, they were super clean and dry looking but ended up being heavily bacterial. I didn't dry overnight or anything, did maybe 2 hours in the colanders... Seemed dry to me but I've obviously gone wrong somewhere.

I’ve tried a few oat preps, the one that finally worked like a charm was Crack’s easy oats.

I then dry in a painters bags and usually have some small fans on them, usually over night. You literally can’t get these too dry as the moisture should be locked in.

I don't think letting them sit like that in a bag overnight is ideal as you run the risk of them fermenting a tad. I get the bag is mesh, but still the ones in the middle definitely must get a bit fermed out.

I see where you’re coming from but oats have been the most reliable grain for me. I lay them out almost so they’re a single layer as well. Ever since I started using Crack’s method and drying like this I’m at pretty much zero contam rate.

regarding the 5L Box

https://www.plasticboxshop.co.uk/boxes-for-the-office-c2/5-litre-multi-plastic-storage-box-multi-box-1-p82

is simply flipping the lid enough for FAE? first time trying unmodified, any guidance would be appreciated big time, how deep should my sub be in such a small box? 1 / 2 inches?

thanks in advanced!

Yeah, i am sure it's fine. Just saying it's not the best case scenario. Try undercooking then a little bit and loading them wet. They come out perfect for me, but you have to make sure your jars aren't submerged in water when pcing. Saves a ton of fucking space and hassle.

yeah I think you can get enough FAE with different lid positionings
I'd go a couple of inches at least for the sub, otherwise it gets dried out too easy.

I just lift the lid and twist it slightly so the lid sits on the rim side of the tub. If I need more fae I twist it a little more to create slightly larger gaps. Works well for me.

Coco & Coir Organic Peat Free Compost - Coco Grow 6 x 9L

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07FW653X2

--------------------------------------

Coco & Coir Organic Peat Free Compost and Substrate - Coco Grow 5kg (75L)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07CH7VZ6D

Both the same price but with the single 5kg block, you're getting an extra 21L.

The small 9L blocks are easier for a beginner (and anyone really) because when prepping the coir you can use 1 whole block to 4 quarts of water and 2 quarts of vermiculite.

Also, with the 5kg block, you'll need a good dust mask and eye protection to avoid the damherois particles when cutting it up.

I have been using https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0029KHEJY/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_YQ3V89Q76BWZ5M3QZFGT?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 for a while now, as it's cheap and I am tight as f*ck.

Looking for a 400mm impulse sealer to use with my XLS Unicorn bags. Preferably something with 3mm seal or more. Anyone had some luck finding those?
