Shoebox Colonizing Interestingly (Vertical Mycelium?)
    #27807030 - 06/05/22 01:34 PM (2 years, 7 months ago)

Hello all, this is my first grow and post here, and like many others with some first grow paranoia I want to check if there is something I should be doing better. I spawned some shoeboxes on 05/25 following the SFF tek, and they took off pretty well and colonized the substrate quickly, though they are growing in a manner I didn't expect. The majority of the substrate has a light coating of mycelium but there are many ropey strands that are growing vertically instead of across the surface. Seems different than aerial mycelium I have seen in posts so I am wondering if there is any reason for this, maybe requiring more FAE or anything else, or if it is simply a case of genetics causing this to happen.

I have definitely learned for subsequent shoeboxes to avoid exposed grains like in the top of the picture, and I guess the most important skill of all which is patience. If anyone has any insight on what is going on here I am all ears. (Also ignore the dark patches in the substrate, those are just shadows from how I took the picture)

That substrate looks super dry for one, but I suspect it's after more FAE.

Got you. Yeah I tried to stick with the tek and completely mist the surface for some time. I was hoping once there was more colonization I would see some beading, but if there was not enough water than it would make sense that there is no beading. I appreciate the response
