Insane condensation during colonization
    #27806778 - 06/05/22 09:31 AM (2 years, 7 months ago)

I have a couple of tubs with lots of condensation. 5 days in. Should I leave them or do something about it?

I’d leave it. My tubs regularly have similar condensation and happy growth.

Is it OK to open and look at progress and if I do should I shake the condensation off?

Id just leave it alone and let it do its thing.

Around 10-14 days it should be ready.

What was your spawn ratio? Was it clean or iffy?

It was 1:2. Tried to be as sterile as possible. Even made up the tub in front of laminar flow hood

You dont have to be super sterile if your grain jars are good and you're using coco coir. Just spawn in open air is fine.

From what I hear temperature fluctuations cause the substrate to pump out condensation like that more, no big deal. My tubs start doing that after a week or two. I just wipe the lids off with a paper towel when they get heavy like that & start falling on the sub so there is no excessive pooling. I'd say as long as it's not causing water to pool up on the substrate surface it's probably fine.

Temperature fluctuations and substrate on the wetter side. Pooling water will cause spots to take longer to colonize, just lift the tub a little bit after a few days and let the water roll to the side. When you fruit it empty out any excess water or soak it up with a paper towel.
