First time here : I forgot to sterilize the jars

My first time and I messed up. I filled my jars and forgot to sterilize before adding the mycelium. I snapped to my mistake and in an effort to correct my mistake I dug through the rice jars and pulled the agar chunks out. Hopefully theyβll still live, the rice was cold. I refilled the jars and put them to steam for an hour or two. The mycelium went from being all white to bruised in about 15 minutes. What do you think after reading that? Will the mycelium make it? Rookie move I know.
I also have 2 separate agar dishes that look like they have mold growing. I canβt tell if itβs contaminated or bruising. One plate it even looks like a tiny shroom growing on the agar. Can you take a look and let me know if these dishes are still viable or completely lost? Is it mold or bruising?

You won't be able to use either of that plates to inoculate anything now they they've been exposed to open air.

Sucks π
I learned though. What an idiot, Iβve been slapping myself for it all day. I have some more supplies so Iβll get to retry it, just have to regrow and not mess up this next timeππ»π
I had the pot with the steamer going. As I finished emptying the cups into the jars I snapped, you canβt steam mycelium π

Label everything in this hobby. Prep your grain and sterilize jars as soon as the grain is ready to be sterilized but not so soon that you dont have anything ready to add to it.
If you're from the usa, go on the postal website and you can get huge rolls of postal stickers for free. They work excellent for quickly needing to add a label to anything.

ππ»Will do π Thank you .
Iβm going to watch these ruined jars carefully. I had 2 agar dishes that were perfect and spotless ππ» So even through all the mistakes. I still have the jars in the garage. Iβm just a few days from tossing them, but until the local trash truck comes, thereβs just enough time to see what happens. Be a lot cooler if the mycelium didnβt contaminate in open air , makes me wonder how it grows in the wild?
I will label everything clearly this next batch around. I have fresh agar and spores. Itβs a very interesting and exciting hobby that requires the respect it deserves to be successful. Absolutely amazing from all aspects. Next stop successful jar colonization, maybe ππ€£
