Bootleg dehydration

Even tough I know for a fact that this post will upset some OGs I need your collective wisdom regarding the dehydration process... I am keeping the shrooms as hidden as I possibly can since the household members might react unfriendly. My first flush is soon to be ready and I need some improvised way of dehydrating without a proper dehydrator... I couldn't for the life of me come up with a real sounding excuse as to why I ordered something like this and I don't think I can hide it during the dehydration process. So yeah any crappy alternative methods such as in the window, blowing on them or whatever will do, anything but mould. Thank you and sorry for those offended

Nobody is offended but thanks anyway…
If the housemates aren’t cool with it you should probably move out.
Only other alternative is to eat them fresh

Sounds like you shouldn't be growing if you're not an adult and able to make decisions for yourself. Or hopefully not an adult that lets people make decisions for them.
Tons of people use dehydrators for all sorts of stuff like fruits and making jerky.

You can pick a dehydrator up at walmart or good will. No need to order. Its gonna be pretty hard to hide the smell. Perhaps you can take over to a nuetral party to dehydrate.
1. Dehydrators are must. There is no discreet option.
2. Dont do illegal shit in someone else's house without their blessing. It would be a stupid thing to get kicked out for, or worse.

Yeah, that's a recipe for disaster right there. You gotta be on the same page as the people you live with. And, honestly, they're within their rights to be bothered by it if you're in a location where they might be in legal jeopardy as a result of your actions.
Plus, it's sketchier for you if you're not communicating with your room-mates. If you're hiding a shroom grow, then is someone else hiding another thing that might eventually bring attention to the house? That's usually how people get into trouble.
All that said, I really don't see why you can't order and use a dehydrator. Just get into making jerky or fruit leather or whatever. Run it in your room because you don't want it to be in the way. Discretely crack the window open and dry a few mushrooms now and then.
If you're generating so many fruits that the smell from the dehydrator is an issue, then you really need to reconsider your living situation.
You also might consider boiling fresh fruits to make a tea, then just freeze the tea. I've never tried it so I can't speak to its effectiveness, but there is discussion of this on the boards. Poke around with the search function.
A dehydrator, or a contraption that works on the same principle- heat plus forced air- is the only reliable way to dry your fruits down without risking rot and potency loss. All the old low-temperature methods have pretty much been debunked.

You can dehydrate them in a sealed tupperware container with damprid inside of it. No fans needed, perfect for stealth. Just don't let the shrooms touch the damp rid.

I'd be interested to see where low temperature drying has been debunked. I don't believe that heat or a dehydrator are needed, they are only faster and more efficient for large batches. These studies claim that drying at room temperature does not cause any potency loss at all compared with fresh fruits.

That does work ok, there will be some moisture left and some minor loss of potency, so I'd recommend storing the dried fruits in a sealed container in the refrigerator or freezer.
Still not ideal, though.

I often see questions on here that revolve around preventing detection by “roommates.” I suspect that this is a code word for “parents.”

I was referring specifically to the methods that people used to discuss on this board.
Do you use low-temperature drying to process psychoactive mushrooms?
If so, then please elaborate.

I've tried it a few times mainly when I was in a pinch and traveling; I'm not a grower only a forager. I've used both a brown paper bag with a fan and container with damprid. As you were saying, the biggest issue I had is that it's difficult to get them dryer than the ambient air humidity % without heating the air to lower it (at least in the tropics) Damprid does a better job than the paper bag and fan when it's a humid environment. Id recommend using extra silica packets or checking them more frequently for storage.

BTW shrooms dried together with jery taste god damn good. Maybe seasoning them like peanuts would help the taste?

In my hobo forager days, I had good results placing them on the dash of a vehicle covered with a dark cloth and parked in the sun. Leave the windows cracked, and stay incognito.

Right on, yeah I guess the biggest question is really how long one plans to store them, and under what conditions.

So, basically turning your car into a giant dehydrator. That's pretty rad.

Okay, firstly I have to take a moment to appreciate your sense of righteousness, now to clear the atmosphere I keep them hidden because my ACTUAL college roomates(2) have a phobia of mushrooms or something... they can't watch them and I don't wanna argue with them. Given the illegal status of shrooms one might think that these 2 knuckleheads would be worried but the same illegality of coke doesn't seem to bother them when they do lines so I wouldn't be so worried about their reaction towards me possesing sensitive stuff. I must add that I'm a cheap ass student and I think I will give the black cloth put in the window during a sunny day a try. Thanks:)

I live in a house where everyone is scared of mushrooms too. I haven't tried fan drying because it would be pretty suspicious to have a super loud fan running for 24-72 hour increments.
My storage solution is making all fresh mushies into tea and putting it in the freezer. No dehydration required. You can get from fruit to tea in like 10 minutes or less. Just combine a little boiling water and some mushies, steep for 5 minutes and strain.
I just told my family it's some exotic alcoholic beverage I wanna preserve. I don't think theyve ever touched it

That wont get them dry enough. Dessicants are only good for aiding long term of storage of completely dehydrated mushrooms in a mason jar.

Just use sushi mats. I've dried at least one pound of fruits this way. Never once had any issues. Takes roughly 7 days total & I flip them every two days or so. Once completed, throw them into a jar with desiccant packets to complete dry them up.

A fan + a space heater sitting near it is a makeshift dehydrator.
