Question time about Cubensis Varieties

Okay Hi
Basically i was wondering, is there a place where i could find a list of active CUBENSIS mushrooms with pictures etc?
Im sure i can distinguish between an active and non active mushroom however becoming better at understanding exactly what i am looking at is what i am here today for.
Is it right to presume that pretty much nobody could know them all as they are constantly being man made through cloning etc?
TIA Could someone pls help, i want to sound a little more educated when posting on people threads

Psilocybe cubensis is an active species of mushroom. Are you talking about a list of cultivars of cubensis? All the different varieties are probably countless and ever growing. They are all active.

Ahh, you seek the list of all the popular phenotypes of cubes!
I have only found a couple, probably the same you've seen already. I have yet to find it in "catalog form", which is a phrase I just made up. lol, but it makes sense!
What I've found helpful is looking at what's available through the trusted vendors first... There, you will find a short description and picture maybe? But then, coming back here and doing a search on the specific name... You can find out a lot about them. And ask specific questions in the threads maybe?
I'm in the same boat and would love a resource like this, with something that explains the other types of non-cube actives too. So if anyone has the hookup, let us know...

"Variety" (which you used) is the correct term but, is often called the misnomer "strain." Search strain thread on here, there are a few, there's even a section: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/postlist.php/Board/286
Not all have pix. Best is to follow the "show your cultivation picture" thread: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21171549
That's the first place I check in here each day. You'll get to see pix of a lot of varieties there. Though there can be variation within a variety.
When you put spores on agar and it grows, dozens, hundreds or thousands of strains are formed, one each time two spores meet and grow. If you isolate an MS (multispore) grow down to a few, then selectively breed (or do so even without the isolation) to get a recurring set of phenotypes, that's a variety. Commonly mis-labled by vendors as a "strain."
There's a thread on spotting and stabilizing phenos: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27106810
You can read about how a strain (RustyWhyte) was created over a few years. Read just the posts here from Pastywhyte if you don't want to read all the comments: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20228521/vc/1
A lot of common strains may be older strains renamed by unscrupulous vendors, there is / has been a lot of that over the years, though the trusted vendors here are good at not doing that: https://www.shroomery.org/sponsors.php
You can google image search for (variety name) shroom maybe add "growing" or you'll get a lot of dried shrooms.
Sometimes that's a quicker way than even advanced search on Shroomery, even if a lot of the resuts are from here. Take picture results from spore sellers with a grain of salt, sometimes they reuse pix for several "strains" or even just steal pix from others or from Google images of generic cube shrooms.
There is saying "a cube is a cube is a cube" (except Penis Envy)", which maybe used to be true, but isn't so much anymore. With so many people doing this citizen science, good things are coming up. But usually means finding a good clone, which are illegal to share, since has to be tissue (which contains a tiny amount of psilocybin) instead of spores (which does not).
I've got an x7x clone that's almost as strong as a PE, and x7x is just a few classic cubes crossed, and isn't usually terribly strong. But my clone is. That's all I grow now.
I grew it from the first plin (plate pin) I cloned. I think I lucked out. haha. But if you get a plin, clone it. It grows shrooms (not all mycelium does) and may be more lively than other parts of that plate.
Hope that helps.
Two good cloning / transfer threads, useful for all this:

Thanks again Nektar! My T1 clone is looking nice and rhizo, unfortunately i have to wait till t2 to take it to LC or grain. I have started a little grow along competition and i will have to use an MS Isolate for my grows rip.
was pretty though, here is what i used and the clone i took than wont be used on the left.
