Flowhood question- flow reduction
    #27798896 - 05/30/22 10:45 AM (2 years, 7 months ago)

So I've spent almost a grand on this build every thing is built.

My blower was expensive and I dont want to burn it out,I have a prefilter on.
My question is it okay to stack more fliters on to reduce flow to a workable rate without worry of motor burnout?

Its blowing pretty fast so I may need to do several.

Everything is expensive right now to so can use a few cotton t-shirts in place for awhile in place of standard filters?

I read about drilling holes, is that a good or bad? Forget about it?

I bought a fan speed controller for my overpowered blower.

It's a plug with a dial and a socket for your filter to plug into, adjust accordingly.

In short the answer is yes, but if you overwork your motor it will fail much faster and may generate vibrations.

Your fans pressure curve chart will have a flat line in the graph where efficiency/motor wear starts taking a hit.  You want to stay to the right of that flat line in the graph.

I would advise against drilling any holes personally, but that's just a gut feeling and not backed by science.

I put a towel over top, its definitely shaking.

I spent 450 so if i can get 4.5 years.

All I have to do is plates, I'll let it ride for that while i look into the options an info you's guys gave.

Do I need to spray the front of my hood down with iso an let it dry?

Or do I start it an let it run a few minutes before I start?

Just turn it on a few minutes before using it to clear the room air (you can do this at higher FPM).  There's no need to spray it and it might even damage the filter if you do.
