Puffy PFtek cakes??
    #27798792 - 05/30/22 08:46 AM (2 years, 7 months ago)

So not sure if Im just being impatient but I've never had PF Tek take this long. I dunked and rolled these a week ago and looks like the mycelium ate the vermiculite and is now puffing up. It still smells earthy. Humidity is at 99 percent, temp stays at constant 76. Never seen it blob like this. So am I being impatient? Or is there something wrong?

Totally normal.. if it starts changing colors, I’d worry but it looks fine so far.

With ms cakes, you’re gonna see all kinds of different type of myc growing all over the cakes… some grows tomentose (puffy and cotton-like) and some grows rhizomorphic (ropey)… it’s genetic.  To get consistent types of myc growth, you’ll need to isolate via agar or clone.

Trich can have that look to it but it’s usually not that big and is even whiter than cube myc.. it’s brilliant white and flatter, but keep an eye on it.. you’ll know if it’s trich for sure in the next day or two… it turns green really fast

I would lower the temp a bit more to not go past 72. I fruit mine in the 65-68 range and get thick chunky stems due to slower growth rate. But the cakes look good, probably just patience.

Thank you for taking the time. I will lower the temp to see if that improves conditions. Mush love.
