Pistol tech
    #27797459 - 05/29/22 09:19 AM (2 years, 7 months ago)

I recently made a closed system where all i do is inject steam twice a day via a hand steam cleaner. It works great. Good first flush and zero chance of contamination. No fanning, just steaming. Pistol tech.

Why do you have to steam a closed system twice a day?

It is just instinct. I wanted to keep the humidity up. It is simple and it just works.

Whatever works, but there’s no such thing as no chance of contamination.:thumbup:

The contamination issue is why i decided to go this route. Water boils at 100 degrees c. As long as the substrate is not contaminated i think i have little to zero chance but i get your meaning.

So fanning is not needed. 18-22 degrees c. 80-90% humidity. C02 layer above the substrate. I also pasteurise the substrate in a pressure cooker.I always thought fanning was a thing but if you steam a couple of times a day it will evaporate and help the mycelium to pin.

In your last picture your fruits are fuzzy almost half way up them, this is because they're closed up and not getting enough fresh air.

Coco coir doesn't need to be pasteurized. At all.

Your monos won't contam if your culture is clean.

Edit: k.i.s s is the word of the day mannnn. If you're shooting spores from a syringe into grains it's much like playing the daily lotto.

Put your spores to agar and clean them with a few transfers. Once clean you could even dump your spawn on the floor, or let your dog lick it before you mix it with coir and it won't contaminate.

Not knocking that your technique doesnt work but you really don't need to go to extreme measures.

So are you telling me sectioning from agar eliminates contamination? I just took my biggest shroom and cloned it on agar. Will the cloned be stronger against contamination?
Also there is a hole on both sides of the top tub for fae. Filled with cotton pads.

If you clean up a culture away from any mold or bacteria you wont have to worry about your substrate contaminating untill after a few flushes when the mycelium is weakened and beat up.

Cloning is just going to give you a culture that has a genetic make up of the fruit you used. Which isn't a bad thing.

You tend to have more issues with bacteria when you clone, so make sure you don't have any excess pooling water in your agar dishes and transfer when you have some good mycelium. 👍

Edit: I don't personally like small shoe box sized totes and only use them for testing a jar. I don't modify them at all and just leave the lid cracked when fruiting. If it drys out past optimal conditions I lightly mist.

For medium and large size totes you should have 4 holes total - 2 on each side right above the substrate level - Covered with a few layers of micropore tape or stuffed tightly with polyfill. And 2 holes total - 1 on each side at the top - these either need 1 layer or none depending on your climate and the size of the holes.

Look up dialing in a monotub.

Thankyou for your wisdom. I have been doing this for 5 years now and learn more and more all the time. Agar is the best way. Have you grown B+ before?
