Attack on the Clone-Agar Edition

Alright so this was my first attempt at using agar. I Tried to make a clone of my first grow from the nicest mush on my second flush. I wasn’t the most sterile and did things too fast, so I can see why it contaminated. Being this is my first attempt, I found it interesting seeing up close in person how contamination and the mycelium work in a flat pane. My question is, should I just call this one trash and start over on another agar plate?
If it is indeed trash, as I see no good mycelium to transfer, do I just scoop everything out and wash/sterilize the Petri dish for another use. Or do you have to completely trash the petri dish as well
Next time I’ll know to take things slow and be more sterile

you can probably get some decent transfers from that myc bear the center of the plate. assuming these are your standard plastic scientific petris, they can’t be reused since you can’t put them through the pressure cooker. you’ll need new plates

Dang, that sucks. Yeah they are your standard plastic Petri dish. I didn’t think about that 🤦🏻♂️. Now I know to be extra sterile as I don’t want to be tossing them in the trash. When you said I could probably get a decent transfer from the center of the Petri dish, do you mean the one that has the clone or the other white patchy one above it?

The whole point of agar to to obtain clean culture…there’s going to be other crap on there sometimes, you transfer away from the bad and keep the good
Imagine throwing away every plate with some contams on it

sometimes plates are too fucked but usually you can get transfers. i was talking about the myc in the patch above the clone but either of those spots would probably get you something workable. take a few transfers so your eggs aren’t all in one basket. you can cull the weaker plates out once you get some good growth

That Myc in the middle looks good. As long as its pure stringy/ fuzz white. Transfer that piece another plate. Or if your courageous transfer that piece to grain.
I've gotten 2 Quart jars of colonized rye an a nice size tub from Agars that look JUST like this one. As long as that Myc is clean in the middle you can move on from this point. Slice that piece out and transfer it; if it keeps growing an its pure toss it in grain.
This is not a bad first try. This is pretty good.
