Questions on overall plan for first time

I'm brand new at this, but have been researching for about a week. There's lots of good info, some confusing. So here is my plan:
1. Buy a 3lb prefilled and sterilized spawn bag (spawnmagic) 2. Buy a spore syringe - looking at Golden Teacher to start (who are the trusted vendors?) 3. Inoculate the bag with the syringe in SAB. 4. Wait for colonization then mix in with coco coir as substrate (are vermiculate and gypsum necessary?) (temp will be about 77 degrees) 5. Prepare coco coir by hydrating with boiling water, letting cool and drain to field capacity. 6. Fill 2 plastic shoe boxes with above and put light layer of coco coir on top. (is blackening the bottom or using a liner necessary?) - suggestions for shoeboxes that have clear lid and built in venting (I don't plan to dubtub). 7. Once colonized, slide lid off a bit for more air flow and allow indirect natural light for up to 12 hours/day. (temp will be about 77 degrees) 8. Harvest at veil break 9. Soak substrate for 2 hours; keep in harvesting mode 10. Take spore print on foil for future grows; Sterilize syringe, fill with scrapings of print and sterile water.
That's what I'm thinking to make it easy to get started. I do own a pressure cooker.
Possible additions are to 1. prepare my own spawn bags or quart mason jars (wbs or something) 2. Learn agar - detect contam early; live culture… 3. More shoeboxes (the smaller form factor works better for me)
I know I tend to over-analyze things. And this is a topic where that is easy to do. So I just want to get started, so I can start learning from my experiences. Just want to avoid obvious stuff.
Thanks

So.. Do you have a pressure cooker? If so avoid those "pre-sterillized" bags at all costs. If you do have a PC doing your own grain is extremely simple and easy. And it's not the best to use but most definitely does work. But whole oats are $15-20 for a 50lb sack at Tractor Supply or Shiptons if you have those. That's all I use for gourmets and what I started with for actives. If you don't have a PC you can do the PF tek. That's always got a solid success rate for beginner's. PF tek is very handy seeing that you can fruit the pucks or you can shred it to substrate. Also with a PC you can start agar work right off the bat. Trust me, that's a total game changer compared to squirting some dirty spores into grain. And if you want to even get partially serious about Mush Cult agar work is basically the building block of everything we do. There are some teks that use BRF rather than agar. But that's getting more into advanced territory. Agar work in a SAB is pretty easy. Just gotta focus on being as sterile and SLOW as possible. All said and done, do what you're comfortable doing. But if you're going to follow a tek, follow it to the T. Very important to success. Oh yeah, you won't be able to grow out a shoe box without some kind of modification. Like a plastic grocery bag over the top or dub tub it. I mean unless you've got a culture that grows only 1 1/2" fruits. Anyway, welcome to the Shroomery and your new addiction! I hope you find all the info you need here. It's hands down the most knowledgeable and advanced forum out there. Once again, welcome!

It appears as if you do have a basic understanding of the mushroom growing process. A few changes I will suggest to increase your chances of success. You do not want to inoculate a spore syringe directly into a sterilized grain bag. The process would be spores>agar>grain>substrate>shoeboxes. You can follow the process with this mindmap by Munchauzen:

Pick tried and proven Teks and follow them to the letter. You can find many of the best Teks here: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24144021
An advantage is that have your own pressure cooker and SAB. So make your own agar. Sterilize your own grain jars/bags.
You asked who are the trusted vendors? There is a link at the top of the page: Trusted Vendors
You asked, are vermiculate and gypsum necessary? Yes, use vermiculite with the coco coir, gypsum not necessary, imo. Follow a bucket Tek.
You ask, is blackening the bottom or using a liner necessary? Blackening the bottom useless. A liner not necessary but useful to eliminate side pins. I use them, but optional.
Have questions along the way, just ask.
You'll do just fine, but good luck!

Since you already have a PC, I would avoid the MS > vendor grain bags completely and start with MS > agar > quarts of grain > shoebox. It's an extra step up front, but it makes the rest of the process almost foolproof once you have clean spawn.

Love that flow chart!
And yep, your plan would be perfect, but even with trusted vendors - the syringes are a crap shoot. You have PC and all, so any issues following your plan are already chillin with the spores in their syringe right now. Just getting high, eating pizza, and talking about how they can't wait till they get shipped off and surprise you someday.
That's why agar patrol stays on guard around here...

Such a wonderful place to learn. All the information needed is tucked away somewhere in the forum and members are eager to help out. Wonderful people. Wish I had found this sight when I first got the grow bug, read some really decent books and watched many YouTube vids prior to joining. YouTube can be tricky and give you bad info if your not carful. Welcome to all the fun. It’s a blast.

Honestly if I wasn't introduced to this hobby by being misled by people explaining how easy it was I probably would not have dedicated as much time and money into learning the nuances and how caring the Shroomery is.
