I'm in the market for a digital camera. Never owned one but it only seems like the next step. I am torn. It's either the Nikon 5 megapixel CoolPix 5700 with fixed lens and video recording capabilities of resolutions up to 640X480 ---or--- the new Canon Digital Rebel for 200 bucks more in cash, and abilities to change your lenses, fly through x-ray outspace, but the piece of plastic shit can't record video, only super high quality 6.3 megapixel images.
go for the Canon, if you're serious about recording videos then get a video camera. You'll get much better resolutions and sound, and you can record video for more than 5 seconds at a time.... I'm also in the market for a digital camera and I will definately get a Canon.
I've owned plenty of video cameras and I really don't mind the lower res, actually the Nikon can record 640 X 480 for up to 70 seconds and that's resolution eqivalent to hi8mm, cheap DV cameras, not badd. I just don't know if the jump is worth it. After the Nikon rebate, that camera would cost me $450 after shipping, the Canon would be $400 dollars more. Is that really worth it ? Just to have an interchangable lens and 1.3 more megapixels? I dunno. dSLRs seem to be dropping more and more every year...
