Vacuum sealed bags letting in moisture after a few years

Stashing away this years ovoids into the vault I was horrified to notice a couple of old bags of sealed shrooms where literally wet inside. At one point I was putting damp rid in a zip lock and then it got vac sealed with the shrooms.
It seems the damp rid is so powerful it pulled moisture through the bag. Totally saturated the damp rid until it liquified getting all over shrooms... trash.
There was a direct correlation to time and how soft they where. Last years voids where still pretty cracker dry, but had a slight bend, but two years old voids would not snap. Some stuff from 2016 and 2018 was pretty soft , but not rotting
I think my biggest mistake was the vac bags of shrooms where in a cardboard box sitting on a cement floor for about a year. I don't think I had any issues with moisture in the bags before sitting on a cement floor. They where in a rubbermade on a shelf before that.
I dehydrated everything again to cracker dry and doubled up on the vacuum bags. Hopefully not much potency loss happened. (I have ate at least 10 year old cubie shrooms that worked and didnt make me sick).
Anyways. Long term storage people. Check your vacuum sealed bags. They may not be as water tight as you think.

I'm always worried so I check all mine once a week. I do use color changing silica gel packs in them, so I get pretty instant notification if one is taking on moisture. Over the past 5 months, Ive only had one let in air, looked like from a tiny crease in the seal. Switched to doing two seals and haven't had an issue since, but I still do check.

Man for some long term like that i'd go for glass jugs with those cool flip tops and rubber gaskets.
You could try to "fill it up" with nitrogen or CO2 after filling it with shrooms somehow.
But just a few 20g packs of desiccant in there should be good.

I use glass jars and silicone sealing disks with both oxygen and moisture absorption packs for jars of whole dried fruits. For my microdoses I grind them, fill capsules and seal the capsules in vacuum sealed Mylar bags with a desiccant and oxygen absorber in one month dosing packs (I do 4 days on, 3 days off, and 16 caps per Mylar bag).
The Mylar bags seem to be more resilient to being moisture and air tight.

Wtf, I've never had desiccant pull moisture back into the bag.

I don’t think the desiccant is pulling moisture into the bag, I think the bag is leaking moisture and the desiccant is getting saturated.
