(Note to mods: idk if this belongs here, feel free to move it)
So I just watched this here funny man briefly talk about the lovely Stinkhorn mushrooms:
And it made me wonder... has anyone tried to cultivate these stinky little bois? Is it possible?

I've actually thought about it. First I want to figure out if one can consistently cultivate shaggys. Now you've got me wondering. When I was a kid I used to always find a VERY orange specimen of stinkhorns. Not bad table fare when young from what I understand. I've never tried them. But shit yeah. Now I'm curious almost simply because there's so many gorgeous specimens. Yeah, now I'm interested. 🤔

Stinkhorns are very unique looking and have an interesting life cycle. I find them in my area starting this time of year mostly in recently mulched soil or in the wood chips placed around shrubs in landscaped areas.
I suppose you could take a tissue culture and place in mulch or chop a few up in a slurry and pour over new bark or wood chips. Give it a go!

That's a good question. I've always just found them randomly around the yard. And yeah, once mature they do have a unique stench to them. But people swear they're decent when young lol. No way I'm eating a mature one. Since they do grow in yards etc. I bet a coir mix might work. Maybe a coir and compost mix? It's gotta be easier than trying to cultivate wood loving actives I imagine. They're just really awesome fungi. Hmmmm... I guess it's time for me to dive deep into the webz and see if there's any info out there. EDIT: OK. Just a basic search is saying they'll grow on compost, rotting and composting wood, composting sawdust etc. But that's just the easy Google search. I'm going to have to do some research because it just doesn't seen like it would be difficult. But then again..
