I am wanting to drill more holes in my FC.
There are several cakes growing in there at the moment (with perlite)
I'm assuming it isn't advised to drill the holes while they're all in there.
What's the best way to go about this? Do I just take them all out and put them in another random box while drilling?

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'd do... I've taken my cakes out before to change out the perlite and clean the tub, and haven't had any issues.. the cakes are pretty resilient once they're 100% colonized.

Why do you want more holes?

idk, this is my first grow and I will definitely use a different FC/method next grow
Not getting great FAE and it only has a couple smalls holes as is. Like a SGFC (I guess) but not really.
I am getting some fruits though, I may just try to ride this grow out until it doesn't work anymore.
*side question: Is it necessary to rest the cakes (how long) before re-dunking, or is it okay to just re-dunk?

Post a picture of your FC. Why do you think it needs more holes rather than adjusting the lid for FAE?

I agree... I've never had a sgfc.. just kinda seems like a pain in the ass to be honest.. and it seems like they don't really have that big of a following anymore... I'd do a water tub or humidity chamber..and just adjust the lid for passive FAE.

How many cakes we talking? You could save yourself a lot trouble and have even more control over FAE by using sandwich baggies.. just case em with wet verm or CV and poke like 6 holes in it via a syringe needle (might need more or less holes depending on your environment.. something that the sgfc doesn’t really address)

Or make one of these (very easy to adjust FAE by adding more needle holes or unzipping the top as needed)

Sgfc’s are notorious for drying cakes out
But if you have more than a few cakes, water tubs work great tho.. I prefer those if I’m fruiting out the top of jars

For reference —> Using ziplocks as FC’s Water tubs

Okay, here is a pic of the setup.
That jar is a humidifier of sorts, I took that out and just use the air pump, because it wasn't pumping enough air out of the 2nd hose. So I just mist instead.
By adjust the lid, I'm guessing you just mean unlatch it and maybe leave a crack or something?
*Edit: there are also 3 small holes on the short side of the tub towards the top
o o o <-- like so. I bought it like that. I didn't know any better lol

Lots of people start with a kit. They rope you in by including everything you need to Grow Mammoth Amounts of Mushrooms. Now you know and it isn’t a big deal. That’ll make a fine SAB if you decide you like the hobby and feel like sticking around. What did the kit come with and what did you have to do? Were the jars already prepared, did you have to inoculate them? There are 8 tall half pint cakes in there? fahtster is having a lot of fun and success with baggies. Simple and effective. I use bags, salad containers, takeout containers, whatever I can keep out of the waste bin. You’re just controlling the humidity and making the little buggers happy.

 Even the Queen”s head works.

It came with pre-sterilized jars, tub, grow light, air pump, those georocks for hydro w/ the pump, perlite.
I inoculated myself, colonized, then put perlite in and switched to fruiting (after birth>dunk>roll)

Faht and Tao are 100% right.. it's best not to over think things.. the fruiting chamber's main job is to hold in moisture.. try a few of the methods they mention and see what works best for you. Everyone has their own preferred methods, so test out a few of the different teks and I'm sure you'll find one that you like.
The kits aren't ideal,.. true.. however, I started with the same exact kit you got.. and to be honest, I still managed to find ways to use some of the stuff..
I still use that fruiting chamber tub.. but I ended up deciding to cover the couple holes with micropore tape, and I turned it into a water tub. I still use the light that came with it.. I also kept the timer, but I use it for the light instead of the humidifier.. 12 hours on/12 hours off... the jars that came with it suck, so I basically got 1 use out of them before going and getting a bunch of the wide mouth jars.. and lose the hygrometer, it's pointless for your setup.. I just use it as a thermometer (outside of my tubs)

Yeah, definitely some helpful information. I have managed to make use of some of it as well so far, and I'll definitely try some more teks.
I also use the timer for the light now that I removed the humidifier.
One thing I've been looking for the answer to: How long do you need to wait (or to what extent) before you decide to re-dunk a cake (its second dunk/after first flush)

It's all preference... some people dunk right after the flush... I've also had luck giving the cake a couple days without misting after a flush to kinda let it get just a little dry.. and then I'll dunk.. and it seems to trigger the next flush that way... but it could just be my imagination I'm pretty sure I've read other people saying they do the same thing.
Edit.. I just re-read what you said.. it sounds like you dunked after the flush and nothing happened... how long has it been? If it's been a reasonable amount of time, a 2nd dunk could definitely help.. try picking up the cake, does it feel light? If so, either dunk or give it a heavy mist for a couple days.

Ahh thank you! I just didnt want to do it "too early" if that was a thing xD
Correction: Idk what I said (probably worded poorly), but I dunked after birth and have not re-dunked yet. I've gotten mushrooms from every cake at least some I believe.
A couple of them still have a bunch of pins or slightly bigger than a pin on them. Those should be removed? or just dunked with pins (prob 12 hours?)

Went ahead and rinsed & dunked them. I do have an opportunity to drill more holes at this time (since i dunked them all).
Advisable? or just leave as is? probably fine using lid for FAE Im thinking

Sounds good.
I think I will have extra syringe, more than needed for my new jars. I have some old jars also and am going to try it on those.
The old jars are 3 maybe 4 weeks old, but were good at the time. Are they any good or possible to salvage? Whatever the case

By old, do you mean that you already tried to inoculate them once and they failed? Or do you just mean that they've been sitting around unused for 3-4 weeks? If it's the second one, they should be fine
