Anyone have their Kratom tree come back to life after losing its leaves?
I tried to make mine go dormant by putting it in the basement over winter; no light, tiny bit of water every couple months and stayed around 50°F... which werks great with my San Pedros.
Going to give it a little time and see if there's any healthy roots in there.

I would also love an answer to that. My colorata plants leaves are dry and crispy, top of stem is twisty and dark. But the rest of the stalk/stem is nice and green... i just dont see where it could possibly sprout new stuff from unless under the soil later. Pulling at it the roots are still damned strong
Related question, how do I nurture a rooted leaf into a plant? I have one, It still looks like a big wide flat happy leaf, when and what should I expect from it? Its in a solo cup of reused charged pasteurized soil[eggshells coffee grinds old ocean forest and happy frog but mostly sand and vermiculite]

Yeah, our winters are bone dry and my plant's leaves fell off, they would grow back when in the spring or when I raised the humidity. Then one time I put my small leafless tree in the backyard in the spring, my mom came over with her dog and he used it as a chew toy... It didn't come back that time... I need to get another one before it's banned for good.

I suggest that you put it outside in a shaded area and keep it watered. Sometimes new growth will come from the root or lower on the stem. I've had success in flower pots and by transplanting into the ground. I've had plants and trees appear to die, only to come back with new growth from the roots or stem base. All 3 of my avacado trees died back from a hard freeze this past winter. They were saplings that had been started from seed last year. I'll upload a pic of what I'm talking about so y'all can see. You can see the dead stem in each picture with new growth that has risen from either the stem area below ground or from the roots themselves. In the last picture you can see a tiny red dot and a little green growth on the stem base at the soil line. If the stem still has some green, it can come back from the stem, but if the stem seems completely dead, don't break it off, plant everything in the ground after the danger of frost has past and leave it alone besides watering when needed and it might come back like mine did and I've done this with several plant species.

Each of the dimples on the stem in the last picture has the ability to grow new limbs or a trunk.

It's been dead for a couple years unfortunately. I think I had also recently repotted it and trimmed some of the roots, I kept it around for awhile but I think it may have been too stressed, or maybe I didn't keep it watered enough and should have kept it around longer. Oh well I guess, live and learn... Hopefully I can get a cutting this spring or summer and try again.

Anyone grow kratom in a greenhouse? I have multiple trees in a new greenhouse and was wondering if anyone could share some advice about how to care for them vs growing outdoors. I have always grown mine in part shade. I notice that the leaves are not as green.

If you scroll back a couple pages, you can see jakeonacid build a greenhouse for kratom and they are thriving. What climate are you in? Both of my trees are in full sun all day and handle it without issue.

I currently have ground layers going on one tree and air layers on the other. Will report back if there is any progress.

Thanks Turtle! Is anyone interested in some rooted Mempawah Hilir Seedlings? I started them from seed a year or so ago and I just have too many. They are less than 12" tall.

It's just a region where the seeds came from. They all have or get magenta colored petiole coverings and the leaves get really red in the sun. They are pretty. I'm totally down for a trade too.

That's interesting. May explain why I have better cloning success with peat pellets. I have a tree that is pretty rare even by Indonesian standards (so I was told by the person who raised it from seed) It's got some potent leaf too for being in a pot.
The tree is so hard to clone, it seems so finicky. It's definitely different. I am trying to clone it as much as I can, but it's a slow grower. The leaves on it produce a ton of horns when it is thriving. This year has been the worst year ever due to the heat. I recently did a repot with some root pruning and it's recovering now and hopefully will be full of leaf by the end of summer. It's in my greenhouse so I can hope for continued growth. I hope some day to be able to share this clone because I am the only person who has it right now. The original grower had his mother tree die so I have been trying to multiply this tree and it's not easy. Anyone have any trees like this?? When it's thriving it makes up to 12 horns per leaf!

I have seen horned kratom leaf like that before, very unique look to it. Cloning kratom has been an uphill battle for me. I have tried a lot of different methods with only very marginal success.

I mostly used solo cups with coco coir until I found out that was not working the greatest with the horned trees. I saw another method where a guy would take peat pellets, cuttings, and clonex or any rooting hormone and put the pellet in a quart size sandwich bag. He poked 2-3 small holes in the top corners of the bag. He hung the bag up by a top corner and a clothes pin. He says he has almost 100% success with that method.
I have had great success with it. One of the horned clones I noticed was starting to drop it's leaves. I knew this. meant mold so I got it out of the bag, opened the peat pellet to discover roots but the end stem was turning brown. I cut the brown off, put it in a fresh new pellet and placed it in a shallow dish with water. It continued rooting and is starting to grow bigger leaves now. PHEW. I will put it in some soil once the root system develops some more. I have never saved a clone before like that. Didn't know I could...
I did read somewhere that kratom roots best in a more acidic rooting medium. Maybe that is why the peat pellets work well ?
check this one out, he's rooting woody sections...

Does anyone know what these bugs are? I have pyrethrum and neem oil. Will try one of the two today. Brought these kratom plants in from my greenhouse (too cold in ontario) and pruned them down to almost nothing. Wishing I had taken cuttings when I pruned them because the bugs have me worried now.

Thanks.

Looks like aphids best as I can tell. Give them a spray with a hose to blast them off. How was it when in the greenhouse?

Amazing. Don't get nearly that kind of growth under lights indoors (using weak LEDs ATM). The trunks got massive and they got fairly tall, I ended up having to trim them down a lot to bring them back inside.

I was going to take cuttings to move to a grow tent I have on another property, where I can use the same strong LED lights I use for flowering cannabis but outside of a tent they'd give me eye damage.
I think other insects were probably eating these things when they were in the greenhouse. Now nothing stops them from taking over. I sprayed them with pyrethrin, I'll hit them with the hose tomorrow. Thanks.

Nice little haul there Jelly! Looks like the branches did get nice and chunky. Once it gets to a point, you’re right there’s really no stopping it. My trees have been looking a little rough lately but they’re still trucking. Krat can take a lot of abuse I find, the only thing that seems to really get them bad is freezing weather. Not one or two nights here and there but a really rough winter. Even then I’ve weathered them outdoors for said winters and most of them did it make it. Anyhow, Missed all you girls and goons <3
