I first stumbled onto this place around 2005 and finally, 17 years later, after wanting to grow my own mushrooms for half my life, I am finally doing it. You guys here have been an invaluable resource for information and I can't thank you enough. I did a simple pf tek. I'm considering trying agar from prints after I harvest some and take a few prints. I didn't take too many pictures but I'll post a picture of my SGFC setup and a couple I took of my cakes. I have the cakes dunking right now, each in their own ziplock bag since 9 a.m. this morning and I'll be rolling them and placing them in the FC at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning. Will update with pictures if anyone is interested.

Thanks again y'all.

Well, I got impatient and rolled my cakes and put them in my SGFC an hour ahead of schedule. I think everything looks good and I'm really excited. The only thing that concerns me is that I set up my light and timer yesterday to let it run through a full cycle to ensure that it works and the bulb blew. I bought a 3 pack of Sylvania 60w 6500k cfl and I'm a little miffed a bulb blew from one use. I'm wondering if it has to do with the timer I bought or something.

I'm super pumped. So, I had originally inoculated 10 jars. One is in my closet colonizing slowly but steadily. It didn't show any signs of colonization for five or six days after the rest of the jars. 5 of them colonized beautifully, 3 of them were contaminated pretty badly so I threw them out. One I wasn't sure about so I put it off to the side and birthed it without dunking or rolling it and put it in its own little container of perlite with a bag over the top. I mist it a few times a day and today, on day 3, I present my first pin.

It is very exciting, isn’t it? So magical to watch them grow. Welcome to your new obsession.

Thanks. Seeing those little mushrooms starting grow has me fantasizing about bigger projects in the future. In the meantime I'm going to keep reading and learning. There are things that I've read and re-read for years now that I feel like I didn't truly grasp until getting my first taste of actually doing it.

I had a brain fart this morning before I left for work and forgot to put the lid back on my SGFC after I misted. It was off for +/- 9 hours. I'm hoping it doesn't effect my cakes too much but time will tell.
My side cake has a few more pins on it. I'm pretty sure it's contaminated as well but I'm going to let it go for now just to see what it does.

Just an update. Still no signs of pinning on my main 5 cakes. They do look like they're maybe trying to colonize the verm coating but I'm not positive.
My side project is doing cool stuff.

I'll just keep misting and waiting.

If you doubled the amount of perlite you’d probably mist less

Thank you. I'll add what I have left. It should bring the level up a couple of inches. I just spent the last 3 hours cleaning the house. Who has the time or energy during the week working full time?
On a side note, bruising or (more) contamination? I think it's (more) contaminated which doesn't surprise me because I've handled the hell out of it. I may have gotten a bit over excited about it.

Thank you so much mushboy for the quick replies.

Got my first pin on my main cakes this morning.

This little guy is progressing.

Exciting stuff.
I'm on lunch now, I can't wait to get home from work and see how they're doing.
Have a great day, y'all.
Edit: I stopped by Lowes after work and grabbed another bag of perlite for my sgfc. It should better now, I put the whole bag in and raised the level about 4 inches.

Good morning guys. I'm seeing a ton of pining action happening now. I'm really happy with how these guys are doing.

I won't be surprised if these are ready when I get home from work today.
Well, that's it. Y'all have a great day today.

I harvested my first flush off of my side cake today. 34.4 wet grams. I'm super stoked to see results. I cut the contaminated part off and set the cake to dunking. I'm not sure if I'm gonna do 12 or 24 hours. Any opinions?

So many pins now! I feel really good about how these are going to produce. I was getting impatient and a little nervous but everything is going to be okay.

Hell yeah.

Update: Big things happening in my fc.

Those other mushrooms I harvested came back at 2.6 grams dried. I'm already more than happy with how this whole process has gone. I've learned so much from this.

Beautiful. Nothing like that feeling of excitement and joy when you see your first pin ever. Definitely a rewarding hobby

Ended up with 14.8 grams dry from my first flush from six cakes. I just harvested a second flush from my first cake to finish. I have another that will be ready tomorrow so I have these guys hanging out in the fridge until then so I can run the dehydrator for one day instead of 2.
