for about the same price you can get a 2x2 FFU which is actually useable in size.

I could not imagine working in a 12x12 space. The price seems extreme for the size.

Sorry... Fan Filter Unit
Did a Google search, and most everything I found was $1k and up. Can you suggest something < 500 ?

There is one on amazon for 480. Now it's possible it gets damaged in shipping but's thats the name of the game with shipping these fragile filters with UPS etc.
AMazon should take care of you from what I hear one fella had 4 returns before they got it right lol.
It's not as "nice" as a terra universal whisper flow though or other USA made FFU.

Thanks. Unfortunately, there was only one review for that unit, and it was decidedly negative. There are a couple other units around $510 that looks better.

So, I did some more poking about. It was quite interesting the plethora of hits "fan filter unit" turned up. Many more useful than for "laminar flow hood". But I digress...
I found this on amazon; https://www.amazon.com/HEPA-Filter-22-6x22-6-Cleanliness-Mycology-Mushroom/dp/B0936Q63G5/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1YH4PI06SK5MK&keywords=fan+filter+unit&qid=1653180137&sprefix=%2Caps%2C142&sr=8-3
I got the mistress of finance to sign off on it, but before I pull the trigger, I though it'd be wise to solicit feedback here. Thanks

I'd save up and get something like this if I were you
https://myersmushrooms.com/product/flowhood-fan-filter-unit-new-120v-freight-not-included/
Or build your own. You can source the filter and fan for a few hundred dollars, and if you're even a little bit crafty you could put one together.

Thanks for your suggestion. Frankly, I don't need anything 4' wide. Don't have the space for that. As far as building one myself, that would be doable IF I still had my wood working tools, but those days are long gone.

I pulled trigger on that FFU I saw on Amazon. Should be here by Wednesday. I've got jars and plates to inoculate so it'll see use soon.

Thanks very much. I'd asked for some input about this unit but got none. So I rolled the dice yesterday and ordered it. Should be here Wednesday. Really looking forward to being able to do agar work and inoculations without going through the 30 - 40 minute hassle of setting up my SAB

You should still go through the annoying setup to clean and sanitize your work area, tools, wear gloves, and a mask. I also use Tyvek sleeves. I have yet to see contamination on agar.

Keep what sandman said in mind and be prepared for a possibly damaged filter.
Inspect it carefully upon arrival for tears etc.
Keep the box in good condition so it can be returned need be.

So far, I've had good luck with Amazon purchases. Even heavy, bulky stuff. But yes, I did see some folks who received damaged or defective FFU's. Keeping my fingers crossed. Amazon does a pretty good reputation for replacing broken stuff, but I'd rather not find out for myself

The issue is that the filters are extremely delicate, when I ordered mine from a cleanroom supplier it had absolutely shit tons of this special wrapping film and it was strapped down to a pallet. Fingers crossed for you though dude.

My FFU arrived just a half hour ago. Man, was it packed up solidly. The outer box was lined with 3/4' foam all the way around and there was another box inside containing the unit which was also line with the same foam. It was a real job getting the unit itself pulled out of all that. The effort was rewarded with a perfect FFU unit. No dents or dings and no loose or missing pieces. Hooray!!! I fired it up. set it on low, and put my easily extinguished alcohol lamp about a foot in front of it. The flame tilted away at a 45° angle but easily stayed lit. Here's some pix...

I am sooo excited. This opens so many doors and make all my mushroomly jobs so much easier. Can't wait to inoculate something, or transfers, pour plates, and all that stuff. Best of all, I can sell off my stock in Lysol
