is perlite harmful to consume?
    #2777725 - 06/09/04 11:12 AM (19 years, 8 months ago)

my dog noticed that some of his mushrooms have perlite stuck to them after picking. If he misses a few pieces, is it going to kill whoever eats it?

Just water the mushrooms down, that way all the perlite will be gone.
And yes its very harmful it can kill you within few hours.

When I harvest shrooms I also have perlite on them, I just rinse them and within few seconds they are good to go.

I did the same thing on one of my latest cakes i threw straight into it's own mini-terarium for some tests, and the mycelium has flurished in those areas with perlite on them and has formed good sized knots over the perlite. Hrmmm I think I'm gonna try dunking and rolling in perlite on after my initial flush. Any idea if the results of doing so are as fruitful on edible mushtroom cakes?
