Over a month with no pins AF1
    #27774275 - 05/12/22 03:56 PM (2 years, 8 months ago)

Hi everyone. Thank you so much for all of the posts I have been pouring over them for months. Here is where I am at. First round is AirForce1s and 8/8 made it 3.2.22-4.7.22 with no contamination and beautiful colonization. Birthed and dunked in bags with bottled water for 18 hours then put them in the fruiting tub 4.8. It’s now 5.12 and not one pin. I have wet bubbles on some I think but I don’t see metabolites oozing out. I have tried every suggestion I can find from the posts, dropped temp, actual sunlight for a few min, raising the temp, extra FAE, less FAE.

The base fruiting has been kept at 99% humidity but not a swam (no standing water and no big drops on the cakes even though there are a few drops in the pictures because I dropped the lid). Temps have been at 74 (dropped for a few days to 69, and raised for two days to 79). I have a light that came with the midwestgrow kit and it said to set it for 12/12 so that is what I have been doing. I fan them 3 times a day but when I saw them getting fuzzy I added tiny little drill holes and they stopped.

Not one pin you guys, I am exhausted. They still smell great.

I'm waiting for someone to chime in. 🤔 I don't think those look so hot. I wouldn't know of course but they look "off" from what I've seen. Im still trying to fruit my first shoebox so don't let my opinion get you down. I don't know jack.

This is my first time growing mushrooms so I have no clue. I just ordered a bulk bag and teachers....they said it might work better with my lack of experience. If I need to ditch them I will but I would hate it if I am just being impatient.

Definitely don't ditch them until someone with experience chimes in. They just look a little off to what I've seen but I really wouldn't know. I hope everything is alright though!

I have had the light at 12/12 the entire time so I am cutting it back to 6/18. The humidifier has been on 24/7 so I will also put the humidifier on an hour/off two hours hoping the extra evaporation will trigger the pins but not dry the cakes out. I am leaving on vacation so I am going to add large holes with sticky filters next week if there are no pins. If there are pins this tub is coming camping!

I just don't know if I need to dunk the cakes since it has been 5 weeks.

PastyWhyte who's known well around here mention this. An I agree put them in coir a give those cakes some warm moist comfort. He put all the cakes in a big tub a surrounded them.

I wouldn’t skip rolling the cakes, it’s kind of essential. What I would do if you have coir is get a tray or small tub and put the cakes in it close together. Then literally bury them in the coir. Like this:

That will ensure you have a decent pinset emerge.

This was that end result. I should note that these are not cubes but I got the idea from people who did it with cubes years ago. These were zaps and they did pretty well all things considered.

I myself never grow from cakes. Always in substrate coir. I feel its best to try to replicate nature the closest you can when growing.

Don't screw with the light. Reduced light hours does nothing. See anyone else on here doing that? It's not cannabis, you can leave the light on 24/7 if you want. But 12/12 works perfectly.I've never done PF tek but that looks funky. You been spraying it a bunch? And humidifier??? Looked like you had it in a tub to me. Why and how would one go about using a humidifier in a already 90+% RH climate? I may have missed it, but what variety is it? Not that it makes any difference whatsoever unless it's PE, a albino and a few other slower and or ones that need specialtreatment. I'm more curious how the marketing towards newer people is going. I HATE the term "beginner friendly" because they ALL are if one was to follow a tek to the T. Excluding above mentioned varieties. Anyway, lots of discoloration and some strange growths in it. Did you PC those BRF jars? And if so, how long did you do it for? Can you share a little info on how you inoculated your jars? And also, welcome to the Shroomery!!! This place is freaking awesome!! And sooooo full of knowledge it's amazing. Anyway, welcome once again. :mushroom2: OH! Almost forgot. It might pay off if you're going to be using PF tek, look into a "water tub" seems to really do a good job on those pucks.

Also from the looks of this there is a lot of Aerial Mycelium.

Aerial Mycelium is what happens from high CO2. Mycelium releases CO2 yes,

Fresh air is needed to aid pinning, RR a mod has said this many times.

You need a proper flow of both...  an I see no nice size holes in you tub wall.

If you have proper Air Circulation your would not have too much Aerial Mycelium blobs and you will have better pinning.

Just my outlook on this. Look at my other post above on what Pasty did with cakes.

Don't screw with the light got it. I have not been misting. This was a midwestgrow kit and it said you basically once you put it in the fruiting chamber you stick the humidifier an inch in, set the light, and get ready to harvest. These are Air Force 1. I have never even tried mushrooms. I have a friend with PTSD and my green helps but I think he needs this. Yes its in a giant clear tote with a lid, perlite, 12/12 light, and I fan 3 times a day and talk to them. I inoculated the jars using the oven method with a syringe and kept them high 70s for about five weeks until they were completely white +5 days. There was no contamination or discoloration.
Thanks for the welcome!!

I just ordered a bulk bag and some other substrate so I could do the next one like a mono. I have teacher and amazon for round 2/3.

I surely do appreciate all the help.

I ordered 1" screens and was going to add some big holes. Right now there are about 20 tiny ones, I fan, and I left the lid cracked and the humidifier pumping air in.

fanning doesn’t do anything, you want consistent passive FAE. no fanning, no fans

I know nothing but if i had to guess...i would be looking at getting some more fresh air in there but not so much that it drops your RH a lot...just a guess.

I added 1.5" holes and put poly in there. :mushroom2: misting daily twice. I dropped the humidifier to 15 minutes on once an hour vs 24/7 and am still at 99%. I have been fanning extra. I feel like since it has been nearly six weeks I should dunk them again???

Coco coir comes in tomorrow. Do I need to remove the perlite from the bottom? Do I need to add black plastic? Do I need to sanitize the plastic if I need it.

if you’re burying the cakes, yeah get rid of the perlite. you can just wash the tub with soap & water no need to go crazy on it. you don’t need a liner, but a lot of people like them. i hate using them personally but they do help things. just press your sub down firmly when you spawn it. make sure the coir is at field capacity before putting the cakes in. it should have a few drops of water come out when you give it a good squeeze

pack your sub down, it looks hella fluffy. you want a compact surface for the fruits to form on

How long does it normally take? 73.4 degrees per the soil probe. 94-99% humidity. Once I buried them and removed the perlite the drops inside the tub dried out.
