First grain spawn jar contamination. 1

First jar of grain spawn I have made. Also a first post! Pleurotus citrinopileatus. Has that moldy look to it with definite sectoring. The interesting thing is that while most of it is grey there are parts that are quite pinkish red. Just curious if anyone know what it is. Grain was made with pc method for 2 hours and injected with a new lc syringe in a sab. Thanks

Lipstick mold maybe? Could it be a filter failure?

donโt inject spores into grain jars/bags. if you have a PC you should really be doing agar, hereโs an easy agar tek

I believe he used a vendorโs LC of oyster. These are usually ok to use, though testing the LC on agar wouldnโt hurt.

I really don't think that came from the LC anyhow or the entire jar would have the mold.
The way the growth is showing up looks like a top down issue - ie. filter failure, lid failure, sterile technique failure.

oop, i totally thought it was spore to grain. i see he listed the mushrooms in the OP now, yeah it does look like a filter failed or something got in through the top

Lol yes it was a vendor's LC. I'm trying out my technique before moving onto more magical varieties and I just like cooking up shrooms. So come to find out after some detective work one of my kids got curious about what was in the jar I left in a dark spot opened it smelled it and stirred it around with a finger. So mystery solved haha.

That is very careless of you to leave your jar lying around for your kid to poke into, not trying to preach but you need to be more responsible having kids and growing mold.
