stacking Monotub is causing problems
    #27780125 - 05/16/22 11:27 AM (2 years, 7 months ago)

Good day,
I have a big problem and it is about the stacking of the monotub with me. The upper is totally fogged as you can see and the surface is barely colonized, the lower is dry and totally overgrown.
It is the same variety, it was planted on the same day under the same conditions, now I think that the stacking of the boxes has something to do with it. Can someone with much more experience tell me something about it?

The mycelium generates heat and heat rises. Weight on the lids can decrease airflow though this is more of an issue in unmod tubs - I see you have holes in the upper-sides of yours so that shouldn't impact you. The heat generated is enough to change substrate temps - the lowest sub in the stack will be coldest, highest one will be the most warm. I would be surprised if this caused colonization problems though, unless your room temp is already on the upper end of the ideal temperature range and the rising sub heat is pushing the upper tubs past that range. The fogging is from the extra differential between inner tub temp and room temp - condensation forms in this situation.

Measure your room temp with a probe thermometer then measure the sub temp of the upper sub with that same probe and report back.

^^^ what they said.

my guess is that your problem is spawn related.

How did your spawn look? How did you make it?

first, thank you for the feedback,
my mycelium is not infested with mold. It looks like it but everything is ok. My spawn is made of rye berries and it is with coco, vermiculite and gyps.

right now the soomer is really bothering me in the apartment, i have a thermostat here that tells me in my chamber it is 25 °C (77F) with 49% humidity.

How did you inoculate your grain? Spore syringe, agar, LC? Do you have any pictures of the spawn jars?

Thank you for the questions.
At first im doing a new batch of mycelium dishes because as you can see im not happy with the look

Second, i used grain 2 grain and my mother jar was inoculated with LI Tek.

As i saied mostly the problem was why is one monotub almost done and the other one didnt even start

This is not related to your monotub stacking, we all stack monotubs.

I think it's your culture as well.  Do you have pics of the plates used to inoculate the LI?  Is this a proven fruiting culture or just a random set of genetics off a MS plate?

I always shuffle everything. Tubs, showboxes, grain jars, agar, even my feet. I also like to revolve everything. Thinking is to even out air, light, heat, etc. But just the same, in all likelihood you have some contam issues.

yea it might be the culture, this is from the F2 genetic wich mean its from the first clone i got:

i destroyed now these Batch because as you can see its not healthy, its not the first batch so its working but im not really happy with this clone.

this is also the batch from the jar:

so it works but well like i saied its still strange, this is the first time im stacking my monotub and the first time this happened.

It's called coincidence. Jumping to conclusions after some random observation is the worst enemy in this hobby.

well well well it looks like the top box is really contaminated, could it be because there was a shitload of water on the top ?

No. High humidity isn't going to cause contamination. It was probably dirty grain spawn but also your room temp is 77F which is on the top end, and then when you add the heat of the lower boxes working their way up into the top box, your top box sub temp is probably in the low to mid 80's which is hot and gives a boost to bacteria.

:whathesaid:

Even slightly bacterial spawn could get nasty at those elevated temps, and really weaken the mycelium.
