I bring the BRF to the bottom of the threads on the jar then add dry vermiculite to the top of the jar. I don’t use tape but other members do. I think the dry vermiculite is enough and tape restricts air.

If you haven't seen them already, The RR videos walk you through the whole process very easy and he says some cool tips - i.e. wiping the inside of the jar after you put BRF in and before the layer of verm.
You said you had a second syringe? Did the vendor send you an extra? I've tried a few different vendors now, and if you are using the one I'm thinking of - did you get a buy one get one GT?
If so... Don't stop what you're doing at all! Just allow me to plant a seed and say, both those syringes may be screwed up. Complete guess and no proof of course. That's just what I think, because it reminds me of the time when I was once sent 2 GT syringes and only ordered 1...
So continue what you're about to do by making your own brf jars! Know that you don't need a pressure cooker to work with agar, and agar into a BRF jar is sooo good. It's also easier to make than the brf jars, you'll just need to add 2 more things to your cart. (Malt Extract and agar agar is what I use) And that's all you need You mix that up and cook in lil 4oz jars the same way you're about to do the pf tek and you don't even need to buy petri dishes or anything fancy. This way - you don't have to worry about the syringes you have being a crap shoot forever.
And if I can get a second opinion, could he shake these failed jars? If there's no contamination, and probably just going to throw away, try shaking up a bunch to spread out ANY germination, if anything is happening inside there. Lol, but only if someone else co-signs - because leaving it alone or throwing away are possibly two better options.

Like The Don said, stick with trusted vendors, for sure.. the first spore syringes I got were super clear, and I think they were also buy 1 get one free.. I really should have done a little more research instead of jumping on the first "good deal" that I saw. I still have one of them and was thinking about trying it out again to see if I can get anything to grow.

I actually ordered two, just in case. They came from a place called hidden forest that seemed pretty reputable. You can definitely tell there are spores in the syringes

Cool cool If you ever need to get a syringe in the future, I definitely recommend checking out the trusted vendors... I don't think I can say which one, but one of them has really nice ones that are very dark and if you mention the shroomery they hook you up with a freebie.

Is there a list of trusted vendors on this board?

No problem! Best of luck with the PF Tek. It's really easy, I'm sure you'll do great 👍

Hey man, after you inoculate your jars, do you cover the holes or just let the dry vermiculite do the filter work? Starting my jars today

The dry verm will be enough.. I used to cover mine also, but I switched to 1 inoculation hole in the center, instead of 4 on the edges, and I was told that it wouldn't provide enough FAE.

+1 for the Verm just does it's thing. I've tried leaving open holes and covering with the foil after. Didn't notice any differences. I still put foil back on after inoculating them, until the jars reach their final destination in the other room. Then I take it off with tape holes still punctured, and never had any issues with contams getting in, let alone getting past verm. It's a great technique for many reasons!

One Center hole? How much do you inject and how long does the jar usually take to consolidate?

I still do around 1cc.. I've only done like 40 jars this way so far, and it seems to take around the same time.. the main difference is that I don't let them consolidate for a week. My logic being that once you see mycelium on the sides, the jar should be ready since you started in the center.. I haven't really decided which way I like better.
I'm thinking about trying a batch of jars using a spore syringe, and a batch using a LC this weekend.. I haven't done LC yet, because I don't trust my cultures enough yet to make a LC for grain, but I figure PFtek is more resilient, so I'm going to give it a go.

Thanks again dude, I inoculated six days ago and can already see all my jars are starting to colonize, the vermiculite I got was pretty big chunks so I was worried but apparently the spores didn’t mind! Did four holes and just dry verm on top with no tape
