Never grown ghosts or yeti, but you sure you didn't mix them up? Or who you got them from? I thought ghosts usually looked like these... Maybe just the crapshoot from spores..?

My yeti always throws a handful of midgets first flush. No matter what I changed, clone, spore, always tiny. The big ones come later. Worth it though

Is Rusty White mycelium typically tomentose and wispy? I’ve taken a culture to T4 and to grain and it looks so light still. The grain jar colonized in normal time from a small agar wedge, and recovered well after both shakes.

Rw is super tormentose
A buddy brought me some vermiculite yesterday, it's super fine like sand and very heavy in comparison. I'm not sure it's usable for mush but I'll give it a go.

Got a question.
Do you personally still wipe your jars down with ISO after removing the foil? Assuming underneath the foil is still sterile if nothing got under it during moving?
The only times I've felt ok not wiping down the entire jar is when I've bunched up and compressed the foil tightly all the way around the rim, I would then spray down the jar with the foil on, and try and spray ISO upwards into any possible gaps or cracks between the foil and the rim.
However I see not everybody bunches their foil up tightly like mine, and will just have it sitting so they can re-use the foil.

I had very fine verm once (not as fine as sand, but close) and it worked. It was a pain in the ass to get the water amount right and the substrate was definitely way more compact and took longer to fully colonize but I got 30g dry from 1qt of spawn in a 1:2 ratio.

Hello there!
I'm growing psilocybe cubensis (golden teachers) and I'm following the broke boi tek from PhillyGoldenTeacher on YouTube. I'm a noob and a first time grower. I inoculated 5 jars of brown rice on April 4th, shook them midway, and spawned to bulk on April 29th. That was 17 days ago.
For the bulk substrate I used 100% coco coir (made with boiling water) as I couldn't find any gypsum or vermiculite in local stores. I think I used around 1:2 or 1:3 grain to substrate ratio. I added a thin casing layer on top.
At the beginning of last week I introduced fruiting conditions by flipping the lid, making sure there's a gap to allow for fresh air exchange. I am also misting regularly (about once every few days) and there are tiny water droplets on the substrate continuously and condensation on the tub sides. There's no pooling, no excess water in the tub.
I haven't noticed any pinning yet, after s2b 17 days ago. Isn't that late? Most guides I read mention about 10-14 days for pins to show up. The mycelium looks healthy and it seems to have colonized most of the substrate.
A picture of the substrate as it is today:

Thank you everyone in this wonderful community!
Edit: shit, upon closer inspection it looks like I have some contamination in the top left corner on my picture. There's a faint of blue in it. Should I cut it out? Throw my whole batch away? Or hope that the mycelium overtakes?

Faint blue just sounds like bruising. I can’t really see it in the photo. I would leave it alone and let it flush. Don’t cut on it.

Yes. I PC with foil on and it only comes off before inoculation. I use an ISOd sponge to wipe the jars down top to bottom before they go in the SAB and take the foil off only then. I try to get into the gap as well and do the lids. They should be clean at this point but I can't see bacteria or mold spore with the naked eye.
And I've often prepped jars then had them sitting out for week or two before use so the foil lids keep stuff off the clean lid. If you go direct from PC to innoc as some do it probably doesn't matter as much nor is it really needed.
I tried reusing the foil but gave it up because it wears out with repeated use and it doesn't cost that much.

I'm so giddy this week. After 12 years of this hobby, I'm suddenly growing insanely well. This aint a fluke either, I've literally done every mistake there is to do. No more to do.
So many thank you's to everyone that put up with my endless question asking. Yer boy finally made it.

Well that sucks. The mycelium seems to be outgrowing it. Any chance of it being saved or should I toss it? Thanks.

Green in a jar is never good. Spawning will be a green mess.
Spawn it into pots of garden soil, give it a little water if the soil is dry and leave it outside. Had best results like this with green jars.

Instead, I cut them close to the cotton and use tweezers to roll them and get em wet with agar before burying them in the plate. I use 9g LME, 7g agar and 500mL distilled water for my germination plates. I havent had a swab not germinate in more than a year.
I do prefer prints over swabs any day though.

Really useful tips, thanks! Receiving some of my first swabs in the next few days and I'm absorbing as much info on them other than streaking over the plate I can.

That's neat, thanks.
I'm lazy and would like if I could stick to one tool so I managed to cut it down ever so slightly hehe.
I snapped them at the bottom in the pack, sliced the pack with a scalpel on my desk, then squeezed the end out and gently poked the scalpel into the swab.
Not ideal if you don't want to fuck your desk up though I'm working on a bit of wood stained MDF and the cut is gentle enough it doesn't damage it.
Just need to check that it works without issue.

I'll try that. I have plenty of flower pots lol hopefully it'll give some fruits. The other jar is doing fine for now so maybe I can still fruit it if it gets to 100% without any issues.
