First time

Hi guys, first time grower here and looking for some advice. I bought a kit and the spores. I inoculated the jars on April 29 and still no mycelium. I have another syringe, is it cool to put it into the same jars? Also I have them on a bookshelf in indirect light, should they be in total darkness? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Is it grain jars or PF tek? Either way don't waste your other syringe by innoculating something more than once.

Are they PF Tek (brf) jars? If so, I'd be patient, I've had jars take up to 3 weeks to start showing... What temperature are the jars being stored at? can you post a picture of your jar(s)? How many holes did you inoculate? 1/2/4? Were they toward the edges or the center of the jar?
I wouldn't use another syringe on the same jars.. if you're making your own jars, and not using pre-mades, I would recommend making a second set of jars and getting them started.

Since itโs my first time I used premade grain jars. They had a rubber port where I stuck the needle and a small hole covered with micropore tape. To be safe I covered the rubber with micropore tape when I was done, I did 4 jars.

spore to grain is notorious for failing & sub par spawn. do PF tek (you donโt need a pressure cooker) or get a PC & get into agar. skipping crucial steps in this hobby will punish you

Thank you! I want to do the pf tek method and make my own jars but wanted to do this method first but I guess Iโm going to jump in feet first! Is it difficult to make?

Nope pftek is simple as making brownies out of a box. Mix 3 ingredients and put into a jar. Steam those jars and then once there cool you inoculate. Just follow that updated pftek thread and you'll be golden. I would look around and decide how you want to fruit them as well. You've got the humidity chamber which to me seems to work really well, the classic sgfc which I'm not a fan of but others swear by and you can also shred the cakes and mix with coir in a shoebox. I've never done it but plenty of people have and had success while some don't like it. Just gotta figure out what you wanna try and give it a go.

PF tek? not at all!! PF is super easy. you basically just steam jars of brown rice flower & then inject them with the syringe. if you donโt have a PC itโs definitely the way to go. if you do have a pressure cooker, you can totally try jumping into agar. it seems scary but itโs actually really simple once you try it out. if not, PF tek all the way!
edit: myco beat me to it, but yeah. itโs easy

How much of the syringe did you inject into each jar? What was the variety of the mushroom? Can you use this link to post some pictures? https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=255&Number=27127917&fpart=&PHPSESSID=

The variety is golden teacher and I did about 2 mls per jar. It seems to me like the grains inside the jar should be wetter then they are. Going to try the pf tek method in the next few days, it just sucks I wasted those spores

It happens... fortunately, if you stick with this hobby, you'll have the ability to make your own spore prints and syringes after your first harvest.. soon you'll be able to provide yourself with a never ending supply of spores.

You still have an entire syringe plus a couple of mls from the one you used. Small loss and lesson learned. Find some wide mouth 1/2 pint jars if youโre trying BRF tek. The jars that you have grain in have shoulders and you wouldnโt be able to remove the cakes.

With the dry vermiculite layer, is there a certain amount you add or just enough to cover the surface of the cake? Also once I inoculate the jars I should cover the holes with micropore tape right? Sorry for all the questions, that post was a little vague on those points.
