My patch fruited in 9 months. I'm not really sure where the whole 2 year/2 seasons thing came from but that is what I was expecting. I've saw loads of people talk about it taking two years but also enough people saying they get fruits the next year as well. MacMerdin and some others have said using sawdust speeds up getting them to fruit. I just used scotts naturescapes/black mulch, stembutts, and a few bags of those hickory smoker chips
My buddy made a patch in 2020 and it didn't fruit until this year.. so not sure. I believe he only used mulch.
I used high spawn ratio, but as far as I'm aware--so did he. I think he actually pretty much just buried spawn so his spawn ratio was probably even higher than mine but it did't fruit for 2 years
edit: Newly seeded sounds like just burying some stem butts in a mulch bed or something, which if is the case probably would take more than a year to fully colonize and fruit. If you take stem butts and generate some spawn and then spawn a patch with 100% colonized mulch before winter it would probably fruit the next year (although like I said my buddies did not)

I think we’re at peak ovoid. The first flushes are fully mature.

Gotcha. Yeah I just tossed the disreputable fruits, stem butts and all into some holes in the mulch. Although, I have a ~30 gallon tote filled with finished compost with mulch as the carbon source, that I also threw some fruits into. So if that colonizes I’ll take some of that out to make spawn with.
I tried to clone my first find to agar but I’ve only ever worked with bacteria on agar and it’s been like 4 years since then so of course it’s contaminated. I might try going spores to agar see if I can get that to germinate.

Some of this morning's finds, now I'm seeing first hand how a patch exhausts it's resources after a few years, none were in their usual fruiting spot, they were fruiting a few feet away, going to start saving the mycelial ends of the fruits and burying them.
(sorry for the quality)
love these olive green ones

Very nice, sometimes its best to just pick them early. I've lost alot to rot even when keeping an eye on them. It can happen over night, then you hate urself for not just picking them in there prime.

Did you bury substrate/butts in the center and they're spreading out?
I only pick a few fruit each year for backup prints. I've had this clone going for 9 years.
These are the remains of a tub of colonized wood chips. At 3 years the center is all punky but still white.

Getting saved by man made patches I can water. Going to try again next week SE Ohio. I might venture even further east if I strike out again.

I have yet to have success within two years when starting from spores. Spawning from a healthy culture that has fruited before goes much quicker. I have moved a bag of material in april that fruited in june. Spawn ratio, weather and a lot of other factors in play. I am sure it is possible to get fruits starting from spores relatively quick, but plan on the long game and have patience. It is worth the wait.

Found 2 more spots in a nearby town. Some were so tiny here and in the one spot their stems broke extremely easily. There were a decent amount hiding under the leaves, but after finding my shroom kingdom in my home town I only pick a couple when I find a new spot to have a some fresh ones one hand.

Where I usually find mine - debris piles or beside them = just 1. Total of 2 in 2 different locations.
This new floodplain I hunted - they grew in some unusual places. Examples include: under a wild rose bush, off a crumbled rock wall and beside & under some sycamore tree leaves. I know it had to be some boxelder debris that they stemmed from beneath but it wasn't obvious.
I'd suggest going to places that you normally wouldn't try. Basically opposite of where you're hunting now. Perhaps they will be there instead. Good luck
Ditto on under rosebushes. Debris piles up under there. They like to hide at my spots and aren't very abundant. I have the northernmost ohio find that I could find documented
I was hoping to get out before the rose leaves filled in but I couldn't

Pitts got heavy rain for about 15 mins friday. Got some pins growing but have to keep watering them. More rain forecasted for monday. Could be a good week, could be about the end of the season, who knows. I never see much late season except small patches in the creeks.

Weather dependent, it’s completely stopped here from the hot week of no rain. We need mild temps and lots of rain for it to keep going
