They've always been like that. Call of duty was the best thing to happen to military recruiting. And ofc half of Hollywood is just advertising for them.

are you suggesting that call of duty was in part developed by the military for recruitment purposes?

I realize that may have benefited them but that's hard for me to believe.

Also the army didn't really hide it when they tried to use video games as marketing tool. The game they were able to produce just couldn't measure up

They’ve got some nifty toys but that still doesn’t change my opinion that they’re one of the lamest games in town that also happen to be capable of running us all right into the ground.

No just that it did happen to be very good for recruitment. You can see its influence in their commercials when cod was in its hayday.

Sure but the army could have just been capitalizing on the popularity of call of duty. .

I think the best recruitment tool the military has is ignorant young people who equate military service with being tough.  I felt it in high school, recruiter saying You think you're tough, come join the Marines, implying you're a bitch if you don't enlist.

Then you get older and the world opens and you realize that recruiter makes 32k a year and has zero freedom, jerks off on a barrack surrounded by other dudes and is probably an alcoholic

It is necessary though, I have respect for vets but look how the VA has operated over the years too, it's apparently improved butthis country talks the talk yet doesn't walk the walk for veterans.

Go find an infantryman who's knees and back are destroyed yet they don't have full disability, they're the first to talk about their regrets serving the machine.

Does part of me think it'd be awesome experiencing that camaraderie, training, shooting weapons, absolutely but it's not worth it.  If you're not sold, volunteer at the VA hospital. See how well our troops laid up with permanent spinal cord injuries are doing and how much safer America is for their sacrifice(not very)

After how the US’s botched war in Afghanistan ended (and their reasons for invading in the first place) I’d imagine the military is hard pressed when it comes to finding a recruit willing to sell their current life for an even smaller hamster wheel.  Im sure they’ll still always get some recruits but nothing like they used to.
