Nice, I see you got the snowy caps like I did. My last tray had some that were 100% covered by mycelium. Looked like one of those SnoBall mini cake snacks.

Iโm going to try and make some gummies out of the overlay. It squishes down to almost nothing when handled.

Iโm pretty sure some mushroom leather is made from overlay. I was trying to figure out how to make it a while back.

Let's start a clothing line made of natalensis. Every time it rains or when you sweat the tryptamines will soak into your skin. And then a few days later you can eat the mushrooms that sprout from your clothes.

Yeah, thanks for having me wait another day! They really filled out and are printing nicely.

Grabbed 3 of largest and prettiest to clone. Think Iโll try about 30g wet tonight, see how they like me.

i did 20g fresh & it was very impressive. iโm usually not too impressed by 2g but i see the hype for this species. legit might stop growing cubes if i get good clones. i have some pics to post of my tub & experience but just havenโt gotten a good chance to post yet
@mr.giggles: im super down. would love to have a living fluffy coat of myc. that overlay looks thick enough to keep ya warm on a rainy day lol

I'm making some progress.
The shoebox in the front was run with 1:3 sub ratio, and the one in the back with 1:5.
This helped the overlay and the yield significantly, and I will do 1:6 with a thick top layer a la p9 Tek next. The 1:3 box only yielded 100g wet.
I tried to grab a close up of this blob, and the moment I did, a red wooden popsicle stick used for propping the lid of the fc got wet and dripped onto it.

thatโs a beautiful cluster!! so youโre saying less nutrition is helping your yields?

Yes, this is also what many others are reporting. I don't know if I'd consider it "less nutrition", since it's always 1q. I'd say "more sub", but either way is technically correct.
I think the myc wants to "stretch its legs" so to speak, and it's gonna use the sky(overlay) or the sub(low nute ratio) depending on what's available.
I consider it the same theory as PE blobbing - just weird expressions of overlay.

right, right. same difference. good to know, iโll try it out on my next tub. i was just thinking PE behaves similarly with too much grain to sub

Interesting. That shoebox I just harvested was 1qt spawn to 4qts CV. 1 inch top layer. Iโll kick the next one up to 1:6 and see how they like it.

Interesting observation, I was just contemplating doing the same, this gave me hope. Thanks! I can totally see how my spawn ratios were too high at 1:1 or so, lol.

So who started the idea that a higher ratio of grain/sub is better? Seems like it could easily be disproven. Better call Nina at the Disinformation Governance Board lol

The first person I heard it from was nosferatu. But itโs pretty common knowledge that bigger ratios prevent overlay and blobbing in those species/varieties that are subject to it
