That’s real commitment right there. There’s gotta be a honey hole closer...

Checked some more knotweed by a puddle by the river and found 6, with 5 being quite small, but didn't really look that well because of the mosquitoes. Everywhere else seems dried up and done for now from what I can tell.

How about burning hemp and/or weed? Tobacco really messes with me.

Snakes too…. At least in South American traditional tobacco beliefs

Anything burning will help. It’s the smoke itself and not really the material that matters.
I keep dried chicken of the woods chunks in my pack for this purpose. As a smudge of sorts. Works great. I’ve used punk wood I’ve found along the trail, leaf and twig debris in a camp cup/pot, made actual smudge type bundles from mugwort.
You can get at creative as you want and prep ahead of time with aromatic plant material or just find whatever is available while you are out.
You can also learn to identity mugwort, Artemisia vulgaris, and just rub it on your skin. They fucking hate that shit I’ve been in clouds thick enough to choke on in shorts and a tee and they 98% left me alone. No joke.

I feel like I remember burning/smoldering some kind of dried mushroom and ferns years ago now that I think about it. I rubbed some mugwort on my clothes today when I was down there, but didn't help as much as I hoped. Maybe it wasn't enough or does it have to be on my skin not just clothes?

On the skin definitely. No toxicity issues that I’m aware of either. I’ve used it in tea, smoked it, chewed it like a quid for upset stomach ect. Great plant to have a relationship with. You can also put it on the soles of your foot to help with fatigue and aches during long days walking. I’m put in right in my socks. Can be a little weird at first but works great. Old Roman soldier trick.

Any kind of smoke will repel mosquitoes however nicotine is especially effective that’s why it is used commercially in mosquito treatment applications the nicotine will actually kill mosquitoes on contact a mosquito can only fly about 20 feet at a time and they must stop to rest when they land on a nicotine coated surface they will die.

Southern NY is on the map! went past one of my spots on a jog and saw some fruits poking out, I've been checking all week not expecting anything until next week because I've never seen them growing this early. I'll post some of the fruits tomorrow when I go back, whooo

Die on contact ay? I like the sound of that. Going to plant some tobacco Sunday.

Long Island here, been looking a few times but so far no dice. After this weekends rain I’ll check some spots and hopefully get lucky! What area in southern ny if you don’t mind me asking?

I'm about an hours drive north of long island, mulch/woodchip piles have been a blessing for me, haven't been as lucky in the floodplains.

Roger. Familiar with some decent hikes up that way. No reason they shouldn’t be popping off here then! Though streams will be my best bet naturally, wood chips are where I’m gonna focus for the most part.
Now just to get lucky.

Some debris piles voids today. Hopefully I can find some bigger patches in the flood plains soon. This scattered dihydrogen monoxide should help.

How long should newly seeded mulch patches take to fruit? Like 1-2 years?
