Flow hood: box and fan size and blind spots?
    #27773634 - 05/12/22 08:32 AM (2 years, 8 months ago)

Hi

I want to build my own flow hood and would like to know how I have to choose my parts. Doesn't have the fan to be the same diameter as my box in which I will work will be wide? Or will the air flow beam spread like a water beam with increasing distance to the exhaust nozzle of the fan or blower?

I am thinking even if so that there will be blind spots or turbulence vortex in the corners of the box left and right from the hepa filter what can lead to contamination in jars and agar dishes if you park them there to have more space on whatever you are working on in the middle of the box and the air flow beam.

Or is the flow too strong and will create a suction due to high pressure differences which removes also all particles there?

Use a squirrel cage style fan with a "boot' between the fan and box. I'd suggest studying laminar flow if I was you. I'm pretty sure that'll clear up some of the bullshit the idiots on facebook or reddit told you. Get the idea of a box fan out of your head. Ir doesn't work that way. Which filter are you using? My filters are close to $800 each. Just the filter. Motors for a decent one are closer to $500. Especially for a decent Dayton.
