BRF jars looking alright?
    #27772948 - 05/11/22 05:44 PM (2 years, 8 months ago)

Just asking if these look okay. I'm pretty confident they are but they've slowed down the past couple days so I'm a bit worried about that. (The yellowish looking bits is just verm/brf stuck to the sides of the jar.)

maybe a little thick but iโ€™d still let them ride before tossing them. if growth is incredibly slow/completely stalled thatโ€™s when iโ€™d be worried, but for now all you can really do is wait it out

What do you mean by "thick" exactly? ๐Ÿค”

(unclean) vs. (clean)

like i said i wouldnโ€™t worry too much yet unless it completely grinds to a halt or you notice anything else. pics arenโ€™t super clear so itโ€™s very possible itโ€™s totally fine

this thread is excellent for learning some of the subtler signs of contamination

Okay! Yeah my camera sucks pretty badly but the mycelium does look pretty clean in person. When you said "thick" did you mean the myc looked thick or my jars themselves looked thick? Just curious.

the mycelium! so in that first pic (the unclean one) do you see how the myc just looks creamier when compared to the second (clean) pic? thatโ€™s what iโ€™m talking about. again i wouldnโ€™t worry too much, the pic quality isnโ€™t helping anything & itโ€™s totally probable your jars are fine. just gotta give it time before worrying too much!

Ahhhh, I gotcha! Well, thank you for checking em out. I'm sure they're alright for now but if they do stop altogether is there anything I can do to save the myc if it's clean? Maybe transfer it into another jar or something?

eh, you could maybe try to transfer some of the colonized BRF to agar but i think putting them into another jar of grain would be a bad idea, or at the very least not a guarantee that itโ€™ll be clean. agar is going to be your best bet for cleaning anything up & is something iโ€™d recommend looking into. itโ€™s really not that hard! you just gotta be able to sterilize it. if i were you & these jars stalled, iโ€™d try too fruiting them with a layer of hydrated coir on the top & tenting them inside a ziplock to retain humidity

That's what I'll do then. As long as I can save them some way or another lol I can't get agar or a PC at the moment. Bills and family are kinda taking my money ๐Ÿ˜… I guess if they stall I'll bury em in a small container and try to fruit em.

ahh yeah thatโ€™s tough /: you could maybe do the BRF puck part of this tek & keep transferring it to new BRF cakes until it looks good enough to go to grain? not a guarantee but idk what i would do in that situation
