Just wanna get in on this very informative thread.  I'm hodling my physical silver I accumulated quite some time ago and hoping for the best, still think it could be of value in the more devastating SHTF societal collapse scenarios.

Crypto is more where my investing is going now but if shit really hits the fan, the local farmers around here ain't gonna take BTC for their steaks, but they may accept bullets or silver and I got both.

But I am still a proponent that silver could go wild, anytime now.. like it did when it shot up to $50 an ounce like overnight a few years ago.

I remember that, it was right at the time when all the stores stopped buying silver, server maintenance and all that, but you could buy and buy until you were flat broke. Right after silver came down  they started buying again.

No, not here. I remember you said that before, but all the coin shops and places around here were still buying AND selling at $50 an ounce for a few hours....

See... and even when the price hit lows of $17.... the shops here still had plenty of silver to sell... so maybe you need a better dealer.

I've already mentioned this so maybe it's an American thing versus dutch .... but when the price hit $50 he said there was a line out the door and he bought and sold no matter what, so did the other shops.

That is the whole point of the premium.. it's a dealer fee. When silver is $50 he would buy for $47 and sell for $53..that's not robbery or scamming it's just commerce.

:whathesaid:

That was my experience as well back when it was up near 50. You could go in any shop and sell or buy for $3 under/over spot.

Although now I will say it sure ain't $3 over spot anymore for non generic rounds.

Any suggestions for a good place to order generic rounds or bars for as little over spot as possible?

I like the Canadian ones in those nice sealed sheets the best, but I only have those and US eagles to compare, aside from generic.

ohh thats a beautiful piece!

Armenia has beautiful Noah's Ark coins of 999 silver, from 1/4oz up to 5kg.

That's an awesome one, and in different incriments like that too? Love to get some of those!

That 6oz Melaleuca one I got, I think must be fairly rare. Melaleuca is (was?) one of those MLM companies that tried to get you to sell shit to your friends but only the top people that did really well got this coin, not sure how long the company lasted or how many people made that level but it's gotta be pretty rare. Not that it's worth anything more than junk value but I love unique coins especially bigger ones. Some of the 10oz bars I've got are just ugly and crude looking like Englehard.

I'd love to get some gold but my play money isn't much so the best I'd be able to do is maybe 1-5g bits. The smaller units like that I've seen kinda kill ya at how much over spot they go for though, any recommendation on cheap gold units in the gram range?

Yeah I love those credit card ones those are sweet...

Good idea on the old gold coins, I didn't know they could be found around spot. Will have to check into it locally, thanks!

I wish I was able to get silver locally in small amounts every now and then, but what people are trying to charge is a joke.

This is the only CL ad for silver near me

And he's trying to get $15 over spot for basically generic rounds. I mean even if those ones aren't considered generic, $15 over spot seems ridiculous to me, anyone else seeing those prices?

Very cool coin!  But that price would prevent anyone from wanting to buy more than one as a novelty...

I think you guys are over reacting, I'm buying a $99 coin not one of thier $500 coins, I'm only losing out on 2 ounces, November I only have $100 so I'll buy the silver penny, then I'm going to work on getting some gold for Christmas

We're not overreacting, just trying to remind you that when shit hits the fan that pretty collectible you paid 3x spot (or whatever) for isn't going to be worth any extra in trade than a generic round.

But if having real non paper inflation proof value isn't your goal, and you prefer to just collect what you like, then by all means do that!

The ideal situation is a lightweight safe with 2,000 lbs of silver and gold ingots in them :awegold:

a cubic foot of gold is something like 1,000 lbs.

You can get a heavy weight fire safe from tractor supply for less than 3-400 bucks.  Not so heavy you can't dolly it down stairs to your basement if you have to, I did it myself.  By the time you fill that thing with ammo, which in the last ten years has appreciated percentage-wise more than silver or gold, then add all your gold and silver, bolt it to a concrete floor and ain't nobody getting that thing out of your house unless you talk too much and they have a multiple person team and some serious equipment and know when you're gonna be away for a while.  Plus the security of fire protection is an extremely important added bonus.

Just an idea.  They are really not prohibitively expensive.

Silver spot ain't gonna ever be what it's worth till they stop manipulating the markets.

That's why I'm holding silver, pretty much!  And bullets, those are good as cash around here and actually would have been a better investment had I spent my money on them instead of silver ten years ago lol
