Does this sub look too dry? Made some new Pastywhyte style bins with higher holes at the forum recommendation but dont seem to be getting the droplets I was previously as the myc pops thru. All 4 modified bins lookin about the same at this point.

Too early to tell but the condensation on the walls makes me think it's probably okay. I don't usually notice little water droplets forming on the surface until it's mostly colonized.

Awesome, appreciate it Doc! Tryin to not touch it this time around until I know somethings wrong. If it gets closer to full colonization and still no droplets then id prob want to mist and address the too-high FAE, correct?

That is correct  I really wanna tell you to throw a top layer on that, unless it's PE and you're going to case later.

Nope, cube isolation. Ive tried top layers in the past and have generally gotten better results not using them, might be worth a revisit though.

Did someone mention that there was a test of ways to store cubes long term... by weighing the cubes before and after? What were the results? I am vacuum sealing big bags for the long haul... maybe a desiccant bag should be in there too...

I definitely have a reaction to exposed grains.

That tub looks really good though, level and hydration seems on point.

💯! I saw it and wanted to suggest a top layer but there was no need to. It looks fine lol.

Spent a couple of hours grinding Hpoo... by hand... it's a shit job. I proposed the idea of using the food processor and that idea was quickly shot down by the wife. Even after saying I'd buy her a new one lol.

:mushroom2: Petri dishes arrived yesterday, hoping the rest will arrive soon.

Eyeing off a nice large plastic container for a SAB 128L.

I have 1/2 pint jars 12 all up on the way, better to do 2 seperate fruiting chambers (ie 6 cakes in each) or all in the same chamber? Curious the size needed for a FC for BRF cakes.

As many cakes as possible is best.

Personally I think shoeboxes are way easier to start out with though.

Thank you A.K.A

We plan to use all 12 1/2pint masons. I saw TC Mushboy did 3 shoeboxes and then put them in a  80qt container, and Bods write up also.

If i did a FC, full size 80gt be too much for 12 1/2 pint cakes.

Vacuum Sealer bags/rolls.

Every so often one of my vacuum'd sealed bags fail. Can anyone recommend a clear 11" wide roll of vacuum bag that is unusually thick and tough. I'd like to avoid the labor of bagging the contents in ziplocks to help avoid punctures. I'm also going to start double sealing. My current bags say 3.5mil. I assume that is just one layer.

Question: when you use dried out manure as an addition to the subs, how does if effect things that the manure is subject to grain/straw sterilisation times, is this a reason for worry?

Compared to pasteurization.

Is it a invitation to contams? Or is it of no significant consequence?

I'm staring to see the straw/manure/sawdust mix as a general measure sub for most of the type of work I do. It's only ineffectual side is when you have non wood digesters (?) Which is somewhat esoteric and disputed on this forum in my experience, at least for cubes (?) And several other actives.

Basically most things should grow and fruit on it, and i want to know if the manure breaks the mix

quesiton 2
can you case a log inoculated with woodeaters or oysters with coir when fruiting outside?

Like bury it in hydrated coir to keep it moist and protected?
does anyone do that?
is it accepted practise?

I've read that dry weight should be 7-10% of wet weight... however I'm getting 5-6% at most,  every time, even with different varieties.. it's not a big deal, I'm not too worried about the weight.. however I'm wondering if this is an indication that I need to do something differently or if it's most likely genetics.. I just dried 607g and ended up with 33g.

Have any of you used old casing material? I've got some that's been sitting around for about 2 months but I usually just toss the old stuff and make more.

I could show you ten post right now that say simply add yeast, and unless you were going to point out some differences like other posters, why don't you keep your peen eater shut.
know it all's around here always knowing it all. I should have just messaged JX and asked him guys I'm sorry!

You are *acting like* a useless cocksucker, and your slowing down mankind at this point.

I hope you see this before they ban me.

Dude chill, your question "so, brewer's yeast"? Was literally answered in the post right above it where it clearly said nutritional yeast, which is not brewers yeast. So it really did kinda seem like you were trolling, or at least not bothering to read the post right above yours.

I said that because he had a comedy set where he claims he enjoys the paranoia and anxiety weed gives him, which triggered me hardcore. Because being anxious just sucks donky dick. And claiming that freaking out is somehow good gives me a really pretencious hippie vibe, but sorry if I am being a dick. I take things too personally
