Agar, Myc, WBS, All Coir Patty, on a Petri Dish Bun - The Zig Mac 2

I did some agar transfers the other day, and didn't really want to throw away the leftover mycelium. It didn't make the cut for the genetic transfer, but it did make the cut for an experiment!RECIPE1. Colonized Petri Dish of Mycelium (New or Used)
<I made a little scaffolding with toothpicks because I didn't know how tall It was going to be. I ended up taking them out, but it helped keep everything together while stacking>
2. Sterilized WBS (Or Grain of Your Choosing) : 2oz
<I had an extra 4oz jar of WBS just looking for something to do too>
3. Patty of 100% Coir (Or CVG, Sawdust, etc...) and sprayed down with water.

4. Second Layer of WBS or Grains : 2oz

5. Second Colonized Petri Dish of Mycelium

6. Enjoy!

I will edit in updates if this does anything interesting! I already put it in a smaller Tupperware that fit's it perfectly. I would assume these would go nice in a SGFG, or at least with some perlite. Might be better to now cover the whole thing in coir or verm, like rolling a cake? I don't know! But we're going to figure it out together, and it beats throwing it all away in the trash!
Post pics here if you have done something similar in the past, or that you're currently doing. Other than that... I'm calling it the Zig Mac! Lol - It's Catchy! Enjoy!

I hate to be a turd on a new pair of sneakers, but my prediction is mold...and lots of it. BUT, there's only one way to find out!
I think @Violet was doing something similar but she was just using coir and topfruiting from the plates.
Best of luck and way to think outside the plate!

Haha! Turds are to be expected online. You're cool though... I'm a fan of yours!
9/10 people on this site study and look at this from a mushroom cultivation point of view, which is awesome and is the whole point of this website! My years of other studies don't see it that way. It's kingdom Fungi, and it will survive with or without our help. My vote is no mold!! All done in open air - also to prove many more points down the road. Wish me luck! Lol
Edit: P.s. I took it out of that shoebox right after pics and put it in a dry container. I will change pictures because that pic does just screeeaaam problems waiting to happen!

Yeah; but Trichoderma, Penicillium, Aspergillus, Rhizophus are all also part of the fungi kingdom and they all like those sweet sweet sugars in our agar and grain

No grain needed. Slap some coir on it. Toss it into a sandwich bag and there you go...

This is a better approach. Hydrated grain in open air is a great way to grow mold. There's without a doubt going to be bacteria and mold spores in that coir too.
You'll be much better off to use colonized grain in place of uncolonized grain.

Now that lil baby is adorable! Awww!!!
I know what everyone else is saying... Just remember, you are cultivators who are growing mushrooms, and for the most part BINARY thinkers. Nothing to be ashamed of... Logic is important.
Do I need to use this, that, or whatever they have said for years? Fuck no!! "Is it necessary for me to drink my own urine? No! But it's sterile and I like the taste"
** - This is NOT directed towards you guys who commented first (mario, mtz, psycho, rotn, and BFCU - I have actually learned a lot from all of your posts in the past, and you guys aren't wrong at all! lol) I just feel the need to make a quick point. (But you guys can probably learn something from this too )
For future readers: Don't let a "new" account here with few # of posts, blind you into making assumptions of what they may or may not know. I am about to post a bunch of wildly unpopular stuff here that isn't really for anyone who is currently in this hobby, because mostly everyone has already made up their minds on what needs to be done, OR what "will" happen if you don't do things exactly the way you're used to doing them. I BELIEVE: Too much creativity, and brain power is being lost in a world of assumptions on here, and I know ALL of you have a power to genuinely change the universe with what you are all learning in this hobby!!! Can you not see it??? And in about 10 years, everything more that we know and learn will be remarkable. Please, you might as well just store all negativity and doubts in the same place you're hiding your inner-genius. Think of the amazing things you didn't think up while you were busy filling your life with worry.
That being said - If you have harvest deadlines, a farm, or do this professionally - None of this applies to you. You can't afford contams or loss of product, time, energy, etc... If you do this for food, medicine, money, or whatever reasons - Take the damn precautions because you will most likely fuck your entire operation up in no time... This is still a fucking science and you can't argue with the fact that if you slip up, you're soooo screwed it's rediculas!! I'm not promoting the destruction of mushrooms, creation of mold/bacteria, or anything like that.
I AM promoting that there seems to be no TEKs, that mentions anything at all about how this is supposed to be FUN!!! You aren't going to invent psilocybin, that's been done for you! So grow mushrooms, study MYCELIUM, and have fun. Or better yet, argue with my facts, and continue your miserable pitfall into an endless depression that eventually kills you - That's the real contam you should be worried about... #lovelife
