Mycology question...kind of technical question.....

OK so these forums are the only place i can really ask questions on these subjects.
Question: Is there any way to get spores to germinate faster? IE....plants seeds can be put in a moist paper towel and will germ faster than just putting them in soil. Are there any methods to do this with spores?
My first thought was that is what agar is for, duh, but then i started wondering if there was a faster way to do it. I might have just answered my own question, but just wanted to run it by the forums just in case.
Thanks again

The speed of germination has more to do with how fresh the spores are. Older spores will take longer.

A simple rubber band wrapped around a syringe will offer the needed PSI to force hydrate a spore by forcing moisture through the cell walls, also know as hyper hydration.

Always wonder if speed had to due with age of spores. This makes 100% since.

A softer 1.5%-1.7% agar favors spore germination. Harder 2% agar can take longer for spores to germinate.

That does absolutely nothing. I get the general idea behind it. But they have to know how it works. And he obviously doesn't. We're not adding 1000psi to it in a vacuum.

Have you tried it. .01 psi can germinate a spore.

You need at least 3 rubber bands to hit 1000psi. Maybe more, but 3 is a good place to start

3 rubber bands or 4 hair ties.
... wait... 🤔... hair ties are calibrated and measured in torque not psi... my fault... carry on

Are plastic syringes rated for 1000 psi?

If i ate my memberberries then i think the conversion rate is something like almost 5 psi per ML. So the bigger the syringe the more psi it will tolerate. I think. Pretty sure i heard a scientist say it one time.

So a 10 cc is rated for 50 psi? Sounds like a lot to me. I got some pretty sturdy 60 cc syringes but I don’t think they are good for 300 psi either. Now I’m curious, gonna have to look that up one day cause I got no clue.

I mean it might not be an exact 5. There's prolly a decimal in there somewhere. You know how science likes its decimals.
Especially when it comes to tension calibrated rubber bands. Can never be a round number...

Did some quick searches and it looks like some gas tight stainless syringes can handle some pretty high pressure, small bores can go higher. But I don’t think those stats apply to a regular plastic leur lock that we’re using.

A plastic 2 liter bottle can handle like 150 psi. I bet a syringe could handle 200-300 before popping if you sealed the plug.
A 60cc is about a square inch diameter roughly so imagine how much pounds of force you would have to apply to the plunger to literally make it explode.
