Coir/h2o- measurements for smaller quantities

Does anyone have some decent measurements for coir/h20 that I can use for 1-2 shoeboxes at a time?
I'm looking for either a weight per qt for coir and how much h2o to add, or even something for a few quarts at a time.. I've tried searching but can only find them for larger quantities like monotubs.. I've also tried just dividing those numbers, but it never turns out right for some reason. So I've had to resort to making adjustments every time trying to find the right amounts, but I can never seem to hit field capacity without adding more water or having way too much.

I wish I had more advice for you but I will say that if your coir is too wet you can just add verm until you are happy with it

I use one pound blocks of coir sometimes. The weigh about 440g. I pour in 2.25 quarts of boiling water and mix. It is usually very close to perfect. If it is a little wet, I add verm, if it is a little dry, I dump another 1/2pint of hot water and mix. Not all coir absorbs the same amount of water so you may have to adjust.
This is enough to easily make 2 shoeboxes with a nice thick top layer, and maybe a bit left over depending on your spawn ratio. If you want to make even less, like enough for one shoebox, just divide the weights in half.

Perfect! Thanks!.. if you need to add verm, do you take some of the coir for the top layer and set it aside first, or do you just mix it in with all of it?

I just mix it all together. After I mix my spawn and sub I level it and lightly pat it down, then add another quart or 2 of the sub on top, level and press. p9 pseudo casing style.

I go by weight. 4:1 water to coir seems to work for me. You can scale this up or down however you want.
