Is the shotgun fruiting chamber an outdated method?

I followed PF Tek and was very disappointed with my results. I suspect the issue was due to low humidity due to so many holes on all sides of the box. When looking at other peoples pictures I often times see tubs without any holes at all with the explanation that FAE happens when opening the top when misting. Im very confused regarding this.

Do a search for the water tub method for pf Tek. It produced much better results for me and was basically set and forget.

Sgfc is definitely a little dated now a days. Some people still swear by it but it was to much maintenance for me. I don't wanna have to mist 6 times a day when I could mist twice in a week then have a better harvest.
I definitely recommend the water tub as well. I've seen people have dried out cakes from a sgfc switch to a water tub and there next flush was banging and I've seen plenty of new people/ first time growers have good success and good yields with it.

It only works well if it's stuffed full with cakes otherwise gets too dry.

There are better ways to fruit cakes these days. Water tub FTW.

You need to maintain the proper environment for any humidity chamber you’re using. You made a large volume SGFC and didn’t supply proper conditions. Also, BRF cakes aren’t consistent in growth.

They are a pain in the ass to make as well. I made one recently about two weeks ago and in the end decided to not even use it for that very reason of drying out the cakes/blocks and having to worry too much about keeping RH up. I had two sterilite 66quart bins, left one unmodified and used it for my first grow. Humidity has been steady with the damp perlite and my fruiting block has been pinning and growing very fine. I just pop the lid off three times a day and give a quick air exchange. I do plan on using the SGFC when I start doing pf tek cakes in bulk quantities(24) and put them In the 66 quart tub.

my very first grow back about 12 years ago, I used a small shotgun fruiting chamber. I thought I had the perfect conditions, but I could never get my cakes to fruit. Of course I was trying to grow them under my bed while I was still living with my parents. Anyways, whatever I was doing to them just wasnt working. I moved the fruiting chamber into the back of my closet which was behind a knee wall right underneath the roof. I just left it there and forgot about it. Then when I remembered I should probably throw the stuff out before I got caught, lo and behold, the cakes had fruited. I got a few decent sized shrooms from the cakes. something wasnt right though because they werent good mushrooms at all. I guess when I moved it behind the knee wall, where it wasnt insulated and it was always hot in the summer, the humidity must have been good enough for the cakes to finally fruit. Sorry for the ramble, but to answer your question, yes, I would say that SGFC are a little outdated. There are easier ways to go with nowadays. Anyways, best of luck!
