Panaeolus and hydrogen peroxide

Hello guys!
So I have some pan bispo trays. I cased them after they fully colonized. I noticed grey fine whispy mycelium showing up on the top casing layer. At first I thought it was cobweb and applied 3% peroxide solution. The casing was a tad too wet as well so I thought it was cobweb.
However I now realize ( I knew this before but I guess never internalized it enough) that pan mycelium is quite different from cube mycelium and that maybe i was just spraying peroxide solution on healthy mycelium. I sprayed it twice 24 hours apart.
Please share your thoughts on this.
Much love

Give some pics.
Pan myc peeps through the casing layer. At it´s best just some strands here and there. You don´t want a myc carpet here. Indeed pan myc is thin, whispy and vulnerable, no way comparable with cube myc. You want to keep the casing always very wet, literally muddy wet. If you come from cultivating cubes, you absolutely need to wear different glasses, speaking myc growth and conditions.

Will it recover from the peroxide?

Thanks a lot. Well they are shoeboxes. Muddy wet casing really? I mean, I mist twice a day. But I don't get it too wet

Compare with the pics in Baba´s thread. You really want the casing very wet, it´s crucial.
If you have, place the shoebox in a bigger tub. Shoeboxes can lose moisture quick, more room makes better microclimate for holding humidity.
How did you prep the casing?

Using loam soil with gypsum and lime.
So do you recommend I mist more?

I can´t tell if loam soil is good to use for a casing. It includes clay which is nutritive.
For conditions i really really can´t tell. It´s hard to judge on pics. It looks dry to me, yeah. But i don´t like to be responsible if you drown your tub.

Is it true that misting pans is a bad idea? Is it recommend to not mist casing at all?

Pan mycelium can look a lot like mold. Indistinguishable from mold on a substrate sometimes, but on an agar plate it’s easy to see the difference. So rule of thumb is if it looked good in agar, and you’re confident in your grain prep and you pasteurized your sub and nothing is turning black or green on your sub, just go for it.
Take a look at these pan trays. These are several varieties. Gives a good idea of the range of appearance that pan mycelium can have on the surface of a sub. This is before casing. Note the tray on the far right that looks moldy. It’s not.

No one knows the answer on misting. I have misted and had pins abort. I have misted and not had pins abort. It depends on the variety and other environmental factors. Bottom line is that the safest thing to do, and what also coincides with the best grows, is to run a setup that requires no active misting. A tent with a fogger on a cycle timer or a JCM fruiting chamber are the best two methods. You adjust your timer cycles to provide the ideal conditions (humidity, rehydration of the substrate surface, FAE, and temp).

Thanks so much for your wisdom, Hindsight. The pan pics are glorious. They are such a fascinating family. I'm using Bod's shoebox Tek. I put grocery bag over my shoeboxes. It's great for fae but needs to misted quite frequently. Maybe monotubs are better for pans. I'll see how it goes. Tent and JCM fruiting chamber i can't access unfortunately

Pans are very tough to pull off with BODs shoebox method. If you get fruits at all, they will be extremely spindly with teeny tiny caps unless you use a variety that is well-known for being a solid tub producer. I accidentally left a shoebox of pans to consolidate for too long and it fruited in the shoebox. This is how it looked and likely what you can expect if you are “lucky”:

That same variety grown in a proper fruiting environment like a tent or JCM can be seen in the bottom right pic in my signature. Quite a difference.
Have you looked into JCM? All you need is a medium size tote, an aquarium heater, aquarium air pump, and some air stones. Can be done for probably $50 and takes only as much space as the tub.

Did they turn out like that due to lack of fae?

Correct. Shoeboxes have enough FAE to grow cubes nicely but not pans.

Thank you Hindsight. I have another question. How does watering the casing work with a syringe? Do i quirt a few drops of water using the syringe along the sides of the tub? How does it work exactly?
Thanks so much 😊

Water the casing evenly and directly. You want to keep it as moist as possible without any pooling. If it looks moist already, I would leave it alone.

Thanks again Hindsight!
I'm proceeding to water with syringe. Showing pins already.
And the pic in your signature with the pan cyans is gorgeous. Hope God will let me have fruits as beautiful as yours!
