lotus and distilation

i am unaware of how the psychoactive effects of blue lotus work... and also on my new distilation kick
all my research has lead me to a post among my fellows here, beacuse no questions were answered.
so: using a home distilation method, could i make an essence of blue lotus? (it would take a large amount to get anything substantial i suppose)
i am asking because the synergy with alcohol would be made easier with a simple essence or tincture to add to a wine or mix drink
thanks for any input! peace
(also should this be in other drugs? do what you must moderators!)

THe active constituents are only soluble in alcohol.. and slighly VERY slighlty soluble in water so people who try to make tea with it usually dont get very good affects. So your idea seems relaly good!

you'll want to steam distill the blue lotus.

steam distill...
so i wouldnt add a direct heating element to the lotus (say about 47 dgrees C) and have it prespire down the side of the unit?
would i have to make a completely different destilling unit then the one i am making now... which is here http://easttnstills.com/Amazingstill-Instructions.pdf
let me know before i kill all the beatuful lotus i come in contact with.
thanks

I suppose you could do that if you were to make a tea or something.
But real steam distilling using glassware with a soxhlet adapter in it. The idea is to pass hot steam through the plant matter and collect it on the other side. So even putting water in your PC and then packing a tube filled with the plant matter and connecting it to the weight spout would do it.

also... alkaloidaholic stated that lotus is not soluble in water... so would a steam distillation method even work to extract what i want out of it?
hmm, i might be getting confused.

Yeah, even things that are not soluble in low temps will go into solution in a very hot steam. Steam distillation is the main way all oils are extracted from plants.

Salvia island has a 15x lotus powder, that is CHEAP. Seems like it would be a whole lot easier just snag a bog that and dissolve it in some everclear...but I'm no scimitist =)
