Just starting out.

What's up guys? New to the community and mushroom growing. About a week ago I watched the documentary "Have a nice trip". I was fascinated so began to look into it and I found myself placing orders for spores, grow bags...etc. First started just wanting to try shrooms, now I'm focused on the potential to have a life changing experience.
Of course, I went a bit overboard, but while waiting for my stuff to arrive, I continued to research (Spores, inoculation, incubation...etc) and stumbled across this community. During the research I saw the process of agar, so ordered some of those too, but they will not be here until next week. I received my first all in one grow bag and the spores will arrive today. I will be getting "Golden Teacher" and "Jedi Mind F**k.
I have a few questions: First: Which strain should I begin with? I was going to inoculate the all in one grow bag, and when the agar dishes arrive I will be making some with each strain. I'll have 10 dishes so should be plenty to get a clean mycelium.
And lastly: I do have some other strains on the way (B+Cubensis...Blue Meanie...and Z-Strain. With that, out of all the spores I have (Golden Teacher, Jedi Mind F**k, and the previous mentions), which is the easiest to grow? In terms of colonization speed, less likely to get contamination...etc.
Forgive me for the long post, but just want to do it right the first time to ensure success, and also learn from my mistakes. Thank you all for your time and "Have a nice trip".

Hey, welcome to this forum.
First, most people here say "a cube is a cube" and that's true if you ask me. Don't worry what "strain" you have, most are the same.
Probably the best way for you is to start building a still air box. After that get your Agar plates and germinate some spores on there.
Everything else you will find here: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=24297804

Outstanding. Thanks for your reply. I read that Golden Teacher is good for beginners to start with their first cultivation. Being that it just seems easier to grow and not much tending to.
I have my container to make a SAB and the Agar plates should here hopefully next week.
Again, thank you for your reply.

I had a pressure cooker, but not now. I've made it a point to look for a decent sized one in the future. And I believe you are right. Since I came on this community, I've found so much helpful information and I know it is only the beginning. I feel like a kid excited for his for adventure.
Thank you for your reply.

You are so right I've found all sorts of helpful information, tips, DIY's, and I know there is much more.
Thanks for the clarification and for the link. Reading over it now. Still learning and will always be learning.
Thanks also for your reply.

Hey come on now. He could streak 2 plates and have enough to get to t4 with either culture.
On a serious note OP. Get more petri dishes. At least a couple hundred. You typically want to start 5-10 plates from spores and do transfers until you get clean myc with all of them. Not every culture is a winner so your gunna want some genetic variation to increase chances of a decent first yeild. Clone the best from each tub and throw the tissue on new agar plates. More transfers once you get that going, etc. You will burn through petris like crazy.

I'm going to take it step by step and will definitely get more dishes. The more I read, the more I realize just how much there is to learn. But thats the fun of it. Thanks for your reply.

I believe I'll be the same way 😆. Already feel a bit obsessed over already and I've just inoculated my first grow bag today.

A) get a pressure cooker B) make a still air box
Until then there is no reason to jump to agar

I'm working on my SAB now and looking for pressure cooker as well. Thanks for the advice. I was looking at tutorials of successful Agar plate techniques, how to isolate and what to look for. I've been all over this site when it comes to syringes, Agar...etc. It was mentioned on this thread and it is clear now...Imma need more dishes .
I do have a question you may be able to help with me. I've looked at some threads and used the search bar, but I can't find what I'm looking for.
My question: My syringes are rather dark. Is this good or is there a greater chance of contam?
It is not a multispore syringe. I ordered some them from a site that has good reviews and they were $34 (Golden Teacher...Jedi Mind F**k). I used the Golden Teacher to inoculate my all in one grow bag (Ordered before I discovered the fantastic use of Agar). I used 6cc's, probably too much, but going to use the rest and the JMF-syringe to make some clean Agar plates.

Those dark things are just spore clumps, and they are MSS. That doesn’t mean spores from different variety’s, it just mean it have a spore print in the solution. Assume all spore syringes are dirty, because spores are dirty.

Dark syringes just mean more spores. By definition a syringe with spore solution is always multispore.
$34 seems high. I hope that was for both syringes with shipping added into the cost.
Yeah 6cc is too much. I use 2cc max when i work with syringes. It will probably be fine but know that you can get a whole lot more for your money by sticking to 1cc per jar/bag.

Definitely get into making your own stuff asap. Agar you can do without a pressure cooker, but you’ll be restricted to pf tek or rice for spawn until you get one.
Everything in this hobby is way easier than it seems at first so don’t be intimidated.
As for syringes, $30 for common stuff like golden teacher is a lot. So many people are into growing now that there’s a bunch of decent spots to get syringes for $8-$20.
Finding shroomery was the most important step. A lot of people seem to have a problem with this place because we don’t let bullshit slide. Theres already so much information when you start out that the last thing you need is to waste time on nonsense. Staying here to learn instead of Facebook/Reddit/YouTube will save you a TON of time.
