Mycelium or Cobweb Mold?

I thought my mycelium were growing super well in my shoebox, but now I'm worried they are growing a little too well. This looks thinner than myc, unfortunately. What do you guys think of these blobs?

Doesn't look good. Might be the pic through the tub wall, but it looks like the whole surface is cobweb. Whats it smell like?
I've never done a shoebox...but it looks like your substrate is very, very shallow

Okay here is a better picture since I took the lid off to smell it. I think it smells slightly musty but it's kind of hard to tell.

Thanks for the input I'll make it deeper next time.

Alright thanks goatrider. I hope this was because these were ripped up BRF cakes that had too much flour which would more easily get moldy after 3 weeks of colonizing. I didn't use enough vermiculite sadly, so hopefully this is the problem and the solution. One syringe worth of lessons learned. Hopefully my agar trays fare better.

I never liked the idea of shredding brf cakes to bulk. These cakes can handle some contam great when staying intact. Spent to bulk these possible contams get set free, while mycelium has to recover from mixing up.
Using too much brf isn´t the cause for contam. The vermiculite helps for spending moisture and makes the mix fluffy, as brf is dense in consistancy. I think your sterilization wasn´t on point or you spawned too early. What was your procedure like?

I PCd at 15 PSI for 50 minutes before inoculation. Here's my grow log. It's a little embarassing. I still have a lot to learn.

You could use a cotton swab to see if it is mold.
Just wipe it lightly with the swab, if it sticks throw the tub away, if not you are good.
Or just wait a day, if it is cobweb its growing very fast, but I'd rather not do that.

Touched it with the sterile swab and nothing came off! It feels a lot like a spider web but I'm really hoping these are some mighty mycelium! I haven't seen any growth since this morning. This happened overnight so it's hard to say how long it actually took. But they're starting to look less whispy and more like regular myc as they condense. Prayers to the mushroom Gods!

Ah it's so hard to tell though! Could I maybe look at it under a microscope? Do you think I would see anything then? I do have one after all.

Golden teacher. I'm also colonizing pink oyster on agar and it looks similar to this. I think I'm going to set the tub aside and see how it does with another day for now.

If this much of growth happened overnight, and it's kinda grayish it most likely is cobweb.
I would not open that tub anymore than necessary and watch what happens.
But don't get your hopes up, sorry.

It's okay I appreciate the reality check. If this is cobweb, what is the best way to try and remove it from my environment if at all possible? Or maybe it's just the technique I used improperly. I'm trying grain next time. If that fails, I'll give PF tek a real chance and build a real SGFC for cakes instead of defiling them this way again. With proper vermiculite and BRF ratios.

You can salt cobweb mold or cover it with baking soda. Make sure the rest of your substrate does not dry out with it. You can also try spraying it with hydrogen peroxide. It will fizz. Cover the jnfected area with a paper towel to prevent more spores from dropping.

Thinking you want to up your time to about 2 hours after a 10 minute vent.
I'm a noob but I see a lot of people quick to say something is mold when it's often not. Hoping it werks out for you!

Namaste to that! Yeah I read that cobweb mold is actually kind of rare. This is my first grow in this environment with this strain. I've seen mold on substrate before, and it was never anything like this. But I'm still relatively a noob so who knows?
Also when I said this appeared overnight, it didn't all appear overnight. I prepared these tubs on Monday and now it's Thursday. There was steady white growth the whole time. It's the big fuzzies that appeared overnight.
Idk I have been doing horrible at being patient throughout this process. I really appreciate hearing everybody's thoughts!

If OP used standard half pints there´s no need to pc for 120 minutes. That´s for steaming, but at 15psi i´d do at least 60 minutes.
Have another look at the 2nd pic. That hairy puffball clearly doesn´t show mycelium growth. I always hate to judge on pictures though
To OP: As i see the pics from your growlog, i advise to use finer verm for the dry top layer. At least medium grade for the mix. The filter on top shouldn´t be that coarse. Think about it like a jar lid filter, with just one layer of micropore. Contams can pass through, so you want it denser. And go at least for 60 mins pc time. As Namaste said, you vented your pc? Very important!
