Has anyone ever used the corn cob slurry TEK?
    #2776163 - 06/08/04 09:38 PM (19 years, 9 months ago)

Im looking at various meahthods of easily increasing spawn volume using not sterile teks. I made one using finely shopped pasturized straw in ziplocks and that worked well. It colonized in 4-7 days with 100ml of wbs spawn used in half a ziplock bag full of compresed straw. But i was wonderng how well the corn cob slurry works? has anyone used it? I was wondering how you can steralize it by boiling yet it not contam? And is the blender needed? Couldnt i drain and cool a pot of corn cob then just mix in a quart or two of wbs?

no, the blender is not needed. If you're using WBS, then you should be fine. The blender is the suggested method, if you're using colonized BRF cakes.

I almost attempted the corncob slurry the other day. I had even purchased the corncob bedding. But then, after searching for previous attempts, I ended up finding out that the corncob is low in nutrients. Its good for bulk spawn, but not good to use a bulk substate, for fruiting off of.
