Shotgun fruiting chamber

Hello I hope this is the right forum to post my question on. I used brown rice in a mason jar sterilized with a pressure cooker. One of my jars is almost completely colonized with mycelium. I was going to use coir and vermiculite as the substrate but for this one which will be done before the others I’m wondering if I can speed up the process by putting this one only in a shotgun chamber and the others will be mixed with substrate. My question being will my brown rice cake work in a shotgun chamber? (I see ityer Or should I just wait for another jar and combine them with coir and vermiculite. Thank you.

You want to mix it with a substrate if it's just plain brown rice. The reasoning behind this is that mushrooms are 90%+ water and the coir/verm provides alot of water. If you stick your whole brown rice cake in a sgfc you may get a few mushrooms but probably not many as there's limited amounts of water in your rice. How big are your jars? One quart jar is enough to do a shoebox with.

They’re 16 oz so I’d need a little over 2 to get 1 quart unless I use a smaller container. Would the perlite and me misting the cake as many times as needed not supply enough water? Thank you for your help.

Does the perlite need to be rehydrated after you fruit once?

As long as there is condensation on the walls then it’s fine. When it starts to lose that is when you need to add more water to the perlite.

Nah it won't like WyoMX said you definitely want to take your colonized jar to coir even if you use the snaplock bag Fruiting chamber if you're worried about not having enough spawn.

Ya the ziplock method would actually be perfect for just one little jar. I'd probably split it into two or three smaller ziplocks or just one one gallon one. Here's a thread on it OP.

I was responding to the person asking about rehydrating the perlite, not fruiting the cake. Sorry for the confusion, and please correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s how I always handled perlite in a SGFC and it’s worked just fine..

Thanks for all the replies I ended up going with coir and vermiculite. I can already see the mycelium spreading I am so excited thank you everyone!
