Second Run of MonoTubs Success ๐

Hey y'all! So, my first attempt to grow some mushy's ended in two tubs wasted. My own fault, treating them with 3% peroxide on a contam scare. Learning experience.
Second run of tubs is much much better. Got some fruits sprouting up in one ๐ฅณ wicked pumped!!
I'm curious though...the tub that's still colonizing, would you say that it's ready to be put into fruiting conditions already? I was waiting for the other tub (same growth style) to FULLY colonize and it just started throwing fruits up on its own. On the fence if I should let it be and do its own thing or try to regulate it
*Those brown looking spots aren't contam, they're just big flakes of vermiculite lol I make my own mixes

hell yeah, glad itโs going better this time around!! as far as โfruiting conditionsโ go, most people just fruit at spawn now & donโt distinguish between fruiting & colonizing. i do like to tape up some holes with micropore tape & then maybe untape them if the sub seems to want more air once it colonizes 100% (or iโm around to mist more often), but itโs not a true distinction & sometimes i end up leaving the tape on. itโs more about maintaining surface conditions than it is about fruiting & colonizing. generally, you donโt want to have to start misting until after 100% colonization, maybe even after a first flush if you balance it right.
speaking of surface conditions, your sub looks a little dry to me. you might want to mist it until it holds tiny beads of water, but not so much that it pools. that link above is how it should look at all times essentially

That link is money ๐ thanks for that. I do have a reptifogger, think maybe that'd better than misting? I did mist a couple sections that were a bit dry. The lid had water beads on it still after a light spray earlier in the morning, so I didn't wanna overdue it... Even if I only get a handful it'll be a success in my book lol
The bigger tub that's still colonizing has a much better design for fae and I used liners. Already looks a lot more consistent than the one that's sprouting. I got high hopes!

Word to the wise***
KEEP THE PEROXIDE OUT! OF YOUR MYCOLOGY PROJECTS
Boy did I learn a hard lesson. Killed two tubs for nothing. Thought I had contamination, but it was just aggressive growth

^^^^^^^ peroxide really shouldnโt be used in this hobby. especially not for contamination control.
condensation on the walls or lid of the tub doesnโt mean much, you wanna read just the surface. itโs kinda hard to use a humidifier to keep the tubs constantly moist or whatever, itโs better to just most when they need it. if youโre misting a lot, change your tub design until youโre not. itโs better to dial that in than try to make some โautomatedโ set up, at least if thatโs what you were thinking. i use a mister designed for hair dressing thatโs really light & fine when it mists & itโs excellent

I sometime use peroxide to bathe samples of wild sourced fruits before I dissect them to try and cline the inner tissue, but beyond that, nahhhh.

Ditch the reptifrogger, trust me lol. Just stick to misting

Misting seems more in line with how it would happen out in nature. Rather save the fogger for better purposes anyway.
I'm guessing the reason I only have a few popping up is due to not having the right surface conditions, is that about right? That tub was just a small bin I wanted to try (and not touch as much as possible)..made it super basic..no liner, four 2.25in holes around.

I'm only misting like twice a day. Once when I get up at like 5ish am and then light light misting around like 5-7 pm
I gotta get one of the nice misters lol the overspray is a little annoying

No need to mist on a schedule, just mist when needed. If surface conditions look good (tiny droplets over the whole surface) theres no need to mist. Once it starts drying up give it a couple squirts. Misting on a schedule can lead to overly wet substrate.

It's not so much to have it on a schedule, just happens to be the times I leave and get back home from work.
So is it that I want to to the tiny droplets like a majority of the time?
I use the ol flashlight reflection trick to see if it needs a spritz. Since the mushy's started popping up (like 1 1/2 days ago haha), I'm extra light and gentle about it, misting less too. I've heard/read a lot that you don't really wanna get them wet once they've gone past the pin stage?

Yea good surface conditions is little tiny droplets across the whole surface.
I usually significantly slow down or stop misting once pins show up, you definitely dont want them sitting there wet for long periods of time

Could someone give me an idea of why I have the cap mutation going on with a couple of them?

Would it be from co building up in the lower part of the tub?

I place the lid strategically and try to really only mist where no pins have popped. Figure that way, I've got the moisture in there, but can't risk ruining good fruit..picking up a hair dresser mister tomorrow so I have better control.

Okie doke! Just wanted to make sure it wasn't something I wasn't regulating properly. Seems like I'm on a good track though and I'm friggin STOKED
Funny enough, the one that's got the super funky cap looks like it decided to like...fuse..with the one it was growing next to.
No one I've asked has ever tried this Z Strain, so I'm anxious to get one of these bad boys in my belly! Haha

theyโll probably be a cube trip!! iโm stoked for ya man. i think if your conditions are more dialed in next grow youโll see a lot better of a pin set & some more normal looking mushrooms.
