If you are handy you can get your own 40ft storage container for less then $3000 then you can build it out to suit your needs.

I haven't pieced out prices but I bet you could have something a little bigger for about half of what they want if you are into diy.

Exactly. I get them for 1500 all day long. 20k is a joke. And why the fuck is this in advanced mycology? Hell, why not. Most topics here in A/M are ground level noob shit. So spam away. This is to ripoff the low intelligence folk with trust funds that want to grow weed. Still 100% joke.

I seen these being advertised before as well. Usually with a promise like, "Everything you need to make 5k a month growing gourmet mushrooms!". Seems kind of scammy.

You could build one for like 5k and it would be a lot nicer.

But container setups inherently suck anyways unless you have an insanely temperate climate year round... And looking at that picture it doesn't have more than 2" of insulation. This thing would take so much energy to cool in the summer heat/sun you better be getting $40/lb for oysters to be profitable haha

In all seriousness, anyone looking to spend $20k should look at building a small metal building/shed. Its more economical per square foot and you can actually insulate it correctly so water wont be condensating on the walls at night. This looks like a mold growing box more than a real mycology setup.

I agree I think 20,000 is really steep for that and there are better alternatives with that kind of money

Are you talking to me or just disputing what I am saying and not talking to me directly? I really can't tell.

Containers can work great and they do take some creativity to run economically which does change depending on location and ambient environment. You can build something like the one pictured that would be a lot nicer for around 5k in most places. This post isn't about what to do instead of a container. Sheds are a whole different ballgame and suck ass for a lot of their own reasons. Same with concrete.

At this point this post just looks like a sales plug for whatever company builds these things which is very clearly against the shroomery user rules. I can't blame people for trying to plug a product and trying to put bread on the table in uncertain times, but there are proper channels for that and coming in here to pretend to start a conversation in order to solicit sales is lame. Shame shame.

Sorry I was stoned AF when I wrote that. I'm not disagreeing with you, more so just pointing out a shipping containers seem to very rarely be a good solution for anything besides shipping or storage.

I will say that I haven't seen any shipping container setups that I would consider good value for the money. It seems like the shipping container homes... It can be done well, just not economically. I'm always open to having my mind changed on the subject, but I haven't seen any great examples.

I'm getting ready to move again (a short distance this time), So I am open for suggestions on best facility setup. I will have plenty of land, so I am looking to do a 1200sqft metal building this time with 4-5" of closed cell foam as I don't plan on moving again after that for the foreseeable future. With a proper vapor barrier and insulation, what issues are people running into?

It's worth it to do some digging () and check out RR's lab/chamber... If you are handy with a backhoe and you have a hill to work with then the world is your oyster. I like containers, despite their drawbacks, due to their maneuverability. It is just a tool and tools have intended purposes. Some people who live in the city have underground parking facilities they rent which would more than accommodate a half size container lab like that. If you are fancy and need to ship a usable lab to another country or haul it behind you to set up at festivals or even shroomery gatherings, then a container about that size is ideal. There are a lot of scenarios in this world, and modular designs for portable myco labs are a great idea and versatile. Something you can sleep in on site if need be. I'd imagine a rack of tools and supplies, a mini fridge, a gcmc unit, microscope, computer, sequencing supplies, burner, pc, and a table with a ffu would fit just about perfectly in there with room enough for you and a friend and hopefully a stereo for some tunes.

A portable lab/fruiting space that is tamper proof around crowds and sized to fit with standard equipment like forklifts, palate jacks, vehicles, and roadways has it's own special place and value to the world of mycology artistry. Lessons, demonstrations, on site lab work like genetic sequencing and GCMS testing. A mycologist with a few tricks up their sleeve (of dishes) could really put a thing like that to some valuable use. I know of places where I could park something like that and likely find and culture hundreds of valuable organisms in the course of a couple days of camping out and singing kumbaya around the fire.

20k is too much. 5k might be a bit shy of as nice as that one. To some people I could see how that unit would be worth the 20k to not have to put the hours in on design and trial and error. Much like buying a laminar flow hepa filter/ffu vs building your own for much cheaper.

One is really just buying the privacy of the shipping container.

There are cheaper ways.

Very valid points you made in certain use cases you shared Nichrome... Touche.

I planning on using buried tubing for geothermal heating and cooling with the metal building for the majority of climate control... I guess I could just bury the whole building with a container setup haha.

Searching what I could find on RR's setup is interesting. Glad he was smart and braced the hell out that ceiling as most people don't realize the corners are the only load bearing sections of containers. His setup definitely gives some food for thought...

One thing that I wonder is how well shipping container steel would hold up to the soil moisture when being buried. I know that they are on cargo ships getting exposed to salt spray on a regular basis, so one would think they have a strong enamel would protect it?
