Looking for PF Tek to Monotub advice.

Hey everyone!
First post here so please point me in the right direction if I’ve done anything wrong 🙏🏻
I’m getting geared-up for my first grow, and leaning towards making PF cakes before dunking and rolling, then crumbling them into a coco coir/gypsum substrate in a fruiting chamber/monotub.
The initial jar spawning will be kept in a dark place in a bedroom, and the fruiting in a bathroom. I’m finding a lot of references to keeping the room at 80-85f? Is this strictly necessary? Do I need proper lighting for the fruiting stage? Or can it be done with just the standard lights in my bathroom?
I’m hoping some experienced growers could point me in the right direction in terms of resources and advice. This is such a massive forum with so many different methods and I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply.
Definitely an interesting read, learned a bit. It doesn’t give much advice on combining PF cakes with a bulk substrate though, and that’s what I’m primarily interested in…
Sorry if I wasn’t clear

There has been plenty of discussion regarding the temperature range for growing P.cubensis, it can be done at ~60f all the way up to ~90f.
Apparently the higher the temperature the conditions for certain bacteria will be more favourable while not giving the p.cubensis mycelia any real growth boost.
The average best temp at which p.cub grows fastest should be around 73-75f, for this reason i advice you to stick to anything lower than 75f.
Other than this, you should be fine assuming your spawn is clean.
I think your refering to some shoebox tek or something similar.

if you’re spawning to bulk, you don’t need to dunk & roll. that’s for fruiting them as cakes. if you’re moving PF tek to bulk sub, just break up the cakes into the coir & mix them as they do with grain to bulk. the PF cakes are essentially just grains, you just also have the option to fruit them as cakes. if you need more info on it i can go into more detail, but yeah basically just break up the cakes into your field capacity coir & let them colonize the sub.
you don’t need to keep anything in the dark, so don’t worry about your colonizing jars seeing any light. any temps between 60-86 will be fine, cubes aren’t that picky. slower growth resulting in thicker fruits happens in the lower end, faster growth & potentially less thick fruits at the higher end. if it’s between 60-86 don’t add any additional heat or fans or anything, you’re more likely to fuck up by adding heaters/heat mats, fans etc. 6500k lighting set at 12/12 is considered the best, but they’ll grow fine with any light ime. if there are windows in your bathroom you’re probably fine, if it’s just the light over the sink you may want some additional lighting, but tbh you can probably get away with it.
if you have any additional questions or need some advice on your next steps please ask!! i’m happy to help & explain where i can.

If you’re going to spawn them to bulk, you can skip the dunk and roll. You can technically skip the dunk and roll regardless of application.

I love the shoebox tek Vp123 suggested and the updated pf tek san pedro guy suggested is perfect! I mixed 4 cakes per shoebox. I would stay in the shoebox range if you are going to spawn to bulk.
You would need a lot of cakes to make a monotub and that invites contam risks. I made 24 pf tek cakes my first run and about 16 jars made it all the way. I made 3 shoeboxes and top fruited the rest.
Good luck!

Done some reading and I reckon the shoebox tek sounds a bit more beginner-friendly, thank you so much for suggesting 🙏🏻
Would you say I’d have to follow along with his oat/verm blend for the spawn? Or would I be okay just doing BRF cakes?

Thanks for the detailed reply! This is the type of info I was looking for
Some of the above folk have suggested the shoebox method and it sounds promising. Any insight there? Would all of your previous advice still apply?

I'm not hazyhorse buy everything they said would still apply for the shoebox teks. I think the shoeboxes from pftek are a great way for beginners to have a go at growing.

Did 3 shoeboxes for my first grow. Got 360g wet from first 2 and 3rd is fruiting right now. Shredded 3 BRF cakes to each box. I followed damion5050 coir tek, bod, Shaperdreaming & mushroomnate shoebox tek & my closet Temps were 68-72F, 12hrs light-12hrs no light. Pretty much maintenance free. I highly recommend shoeboxes, worked great for me.

yep, it all applies to the shoeboxes! the general concept really applies to whatever you’re trying to fruit in; you want to make sure it’s retaining humidity while also allowing for passive air exchange! as everyone suggested, shoeboxes would be a great way to spawn the cakes

I think the thing I’m stressing about the most is the temperature. It’s pretty cold where I am, with most nights for the next few months getting below 45f. I was thinking of just setting up a small heater in my bathroom bc there’s no way I want my bedroom at 65+ while I’m trying to sleep haha

damn, you must sleep with it cold lol. i start to get uncomfortably cold around 65f, my room has dipped to 59f without a heater & i’m freezing lol. if your interior temps are 45f yeah definitely run a heater, if it’s gonna stay above 60f inside don’t worry about it.

I love the cold. Give me big blankets and 45 year round and i'd be happy haha. Probably wont be getting below 50 inside if i'm being realistic tho. I have a small oil heater i'll probably run to try to keep the bathroom above 65. It'll be below 30 here soon and I just can't take the risk.
Out of curiosity though, what should I expect if the cakes do get too cold? will the mycelium die?

It won't die it will just go into hibernation mode.
Nothing much will happen in the tub at all below about 50 I heard.
I'm in Florida and my house is never ever ever in danger of dropping below 70. If it does hell hath frozen over! You cold weather people are tough as hell! Not me, nope.
In the army I once had to stand out in the snow and I thought I literally might die if I have to stay out here any longer. Luckily everyone in my unit was from the south so I didn't have to endure all that long before I got relief.

Really didn't get much from second flush on my first 2 shoe boxes. Probably harvested 30-40g wet from both. This is a pic from the other 9 cakes I had. 18 total, 9 to shoeboxes and 9 using Mateja water tub tek. The one on the lower left is on its second flush. I started with a sfgc tried to convert it to a hybrid mono with duct tape and polyfil but cakes just kept drying out. They're proven tek's & many a growers have had great success with it when you get it dialed in just right but the water tub tek proved much easier for me. Mateja uses coir, I used vermiculite & felt like I had good results. Not trying to hijack the thread with the water tub tek or anything just throwing another option out there for you that proved to be really easy for my first grow.

Hadn’t heard of that second tek before your reply!
If you had to guess, why do you think your second flush was mostly unsuccessful? Seems like you did everything right…
