Lol. Climate change. Where I used to go and start my hike in California on the PCT is forever closed. * 1

Buying a new tent and was hoping to go on the PCT.  Did for three years with wildfires then and now plus covid haven't been the last two years.  Now they are just closing parts of it indefinitely.  A.T. sucks, this all sucks.

At least in time I will get to tell my kid that the world used to be kind of awesome.  AND I HAVE PICTURES TO PROVE IT!  Shit.  Oh well.

Yet all is not lost.  I live in Utah.  Still some places haven't explored here or in the Rockies.  R.I.P.  PCT.

The places where one can go without the tennis shoe hikers and tourists is getting thin.  God in Moab and this small stream with rocks around and this large group acting like it was the Great Missisp and how to cross and stood in awe and he just jumped around the rocks around it and to the other side as did I, giant high stones to get by it.  He taught me a lot and it made me laugh.  Not to show them up, it was just, come on you pussies!  You are in my way.

It's sad that so many people are still in denial about the damage we've done to the planet, especially in just the past 100 years.

That it is.  But at least many got to experience it.  Industrial revolution and still fossil fuels and greed.  Suicidal society.  Pollute and destroy every element that supports life especially air, water, and soil.

Is what it is.  They make one believe you can make a huge difference in the world to change this in College.  One cannot.  Oh well on to the beach for a vacation.  Made me laugh a joke that they were going to give this seaman a ocean burial as he wanted but they threw him over and he just fell on a large amount of plastic.

The card at the base of the staff represents your role or attitude. Santera (Queen of Discs): The essence of earth behaving as water, such as a hot spring: A warm and generous host, providing shelter and comfort for all who would seek it. A person steadfast, practical, and domestic, able to create opulence and stability in any setting. The qualities of maturity and sensibility, coupled with an innate appreciation for nature and the material world.

Mother Earth.  One learns through experience.  See/know/do/become.  Lot of blind people in the world still a lot of wise people, not me, but others that give me hope.  Really, I don't believe this will become a dead planet but the level of suffering and death and what people consider normal for the earth, that time will fade.  Not the death and suffering part but our connection to it.

The earth and each other.  Will shut up now.  People will realize when shit hits the fan.  Humor has worked for me yet eyes to see and hope.  Best you can is good enough, great Radiohead song. And my conscience is at ease.  Everyone dies, just not for speeding up the process for people and animals, insects, bugs, plants, Mycology is amazing in what it can do to get rid of the filth.

It is fascinating the depths of this world and life experience and I enjoy it in a non-destructive way.  At the same time I used to judge way to much.  Circle of what one can influence in life and what one has no control over.  And I am done making my life miserable in many ways.  Some burdens that PCT people got and taught and basic logic of life is valuable, not going to make myself miserable with what I can't control.

Everyone who searches will find we are all connected on a physical and spiritual level.  Some bark and leaves showed me the grid, DMT, of no time and connection to everything past and present yet we are the ones making our own futures and having influences on those around us.  More than we are consciously able to and people know.

Not a paper to turn into a College or a lecture to anyone or government or those behind them.  Just, I let it go, a burden I can't carry and don't need to.  Can't have my time on the P.C.T.,  So nature has gotten into us and we unto it.  Other places to go in mind and spirit and still in this world.  This is the shroomery, some people will get it.

But like you wrote, family, kids, generations.  Feel that time is nearing its end for what I, and I think you get it as well, enjoyed.  Not doom and gloom.  I survive.  Will be interesting how the world turns out as time goes on.  I have limited my responsibility and those for.

I live in Minnesota and the funny thing is that our winters are actually colder at times. Every January we get hit with a "polar vortex" and the temp drops to about -20 for 3 weeks. Idiots here will say, "if the planet is warming, why is it -20?". I don't remember any weather like that when I was a kid.

Of course.  Only idiots believe it will warm up everything.  Other places will freeze and there will be record temps on both sides of it.  An increase in massive freezing temps, massive hurricanes, flooding, snowfall, rain, and on it goes.

Wonder what the world will be like year to year but especially in 5-10.  But yeah, people were predicting this shit in the 1970's.

For those that trust in corporations and politicians and do no research is easy, ignorance is bliss but will hit them the hardest when what is plain sight, no matter the spin with media and politicians say, I TRUST IN THEM TO KEEP ME SAFE!

Yeah, Good luck on that.  Not a doomsayer, or a negative person.  Just shit in so many ways for everyone on this planet for the most part is just going to get worse and worse.  On with it.  I am not overly invested in the system and have no debt.

It is the people with large families and massive debts in many areas financially that it is going to be the roughest on and is now in many ways.  Would like to be optimistic, am not.

Barnaby, the best case scenario isn't going to happen, you are right.

But neither is the worst case scenario.

Being in Utah can be stressful for some people... seriously.

I wonder if you would feel the same way if you were not surrounded by so many people who take nature for granted?

Yeah, that must be it.  Not someone that has traveled all over and seen in person the changes, listened to people from all over the world, and just a stupid as shit person.  Then you might have a point.

Hard one wisdom.

Ones assumes something on some stranger in life or on the internet and feels it is true.  It is not.  Go through life and learn your own way and maybe, God I hate that word, as well as ending, not every sentence with OKAY like the whole world agrees with someone because you end sentences with it.

I have my frustrations with Utah and of course who runs it in the government yet, they don't really run it and are controlled by others who have the real power.  So circle of concern and circle of influence.  I have none of the influence.  On with life.  At this time we in most places can inhabit it and actually enjoy it.  I think SLC is ranked number 3 for worst air quality in the nation.  On with it.

What can I do about it?  Thinking Sedona .  San Diego had some great trails and plants and cacti I have never seen before.  Once it is in you it is in you.  One just wants to feel that adreline and go and I have sunrise to sunset for so long and these last two years turned lazy and dumb.  Cities are great, yet to me that balance of city life and everything is nature and will go back to it but industrialized and gentrified nature won't last.

But yeah.  I felt that again.  That drive to keep on walking and going and my mind and body is in that place right now.  Like building a strong body and mind takes awhile for it to erode.  Mine is alive and well again.

Now it is just research of where the fuck one can go and be left alone on this planet.  Sticking to the States for now.  Hoping next year Covid whatever varient lets up and I can hike in Iceland.  Will see.  On with life.

The San Raphael Swell is pretty nice this time of year.

The air is usually pretty bad along the Wasatch Front.
More cars than people can do that.

Ignorance abounds because average is average.
I mean, you can't escape ignorant people and fighting them is not worth it at all.

The man who worries about the world can be crushed by the weight of it, but each day your own choices offer you little chances to make the world a better place. If you do your best in terms of those choices then whatever the outcome, you will be at peace.

You seem like you have the power to make the world a better place just through acts of kindness and consideration, but you also seem like you could become more jaded, angry and even potentially radicalized. There is however no shortage of anger in the world and anger harms those who hold it in their hearts.

You seem like one of the good ones.
I hope that doesn't change.

First I heard of him.  Just read about him on Wiki and was a park ranger at Arches so I get the posers/posters that assume that make asses out of you and me as Stephen King once said.  Will read up more on him.

The mainstays to me are, like many, Walden and some Emerson writings and Wild that got me onto the PCT for 3 straight years but that time is gone but one can always learn something new.  Not that you are just arrogance and being away from it and the fakeness of society and comparing them to ants rushing to and fro, I get, have done my time.  Might read a book of his as I do some more research that you recommended him and didn't need to belittle someone when posting.

Masks are off and yeah the world is still burning and flooding.  Still, there are places to explore and that always sticks with me.  We have gone into nature and now nature is a part of us.  I get that very deeply.  Every sense and instinct heightened.  Is such a rush as is the few people one meets along the way that get it and some of the animals.  Was thinking of Montana when seeing a flight out coming back from my last vacation to there.

Will see.  I like the sign of, on to the next adventure.  Cities get boring very quickly to me.  I need that feeling of aloneness and freedom.  Why I will never do the A.T.  Great book and movie though.

Fucking Bears are really my only fear and running out of water when out there.  At heights, the forest for the trees and it looks like a shortcut but when in the trees if I attempted it, I would of regretted getting off the trail.  Trails are there for a reason.  Lol.  Getting excited and am ready for it.

"Upon receiving his honorable discharge papers, Abbey sent them back to the department with the words "Return to Sender". The FBI took note and added a note to his file which was opened in 1947 when Edward Abbey committed an act of civil disobedience: he posted a letter while in college urging people to rid themselves of their draft cards.[11] Abbey was on the FBI's watch-list ever since then and was watched throughout his life. In 1952, Abbey wrote a letter against the draft in times of peace, and again the FBI took notice writing, "Edward Abbey is against war and military.".

That made me laugh.

Like Henry and his reasons and going to jail for not fighting in Mexican war but a lot more to the point and simpler.

I hear you man, totally understand.

Desert Solitaire is a great one to start with, chock full of his witty banter similar to what you posted above, and he wrote that one during his stint as a ranger at Arches. I was only there for a few days, but Utah is a beautiful place.

Yeah.  That is the best part of having my home base as I call my apartment in Utah to travel from.  Zion, Bryce, Moab, etc. is great to have it all so nearby.

Did my research and never been to Montana and I love exploring new places.  East Glacier Park near the border of Canada.  Looks amazing.  Think I will do a mix of a cabin and hiking tenting there when it opens in the Summer.

The Grizz.  Will do what a guy on the PCT showed me and buy a horn.  This small plastic small object that goes off once and I wanted him to let me hear it and he said it would basically blow out your eardrums.  Yeah, that works.  I miss some of the more interesting ones one meets on the trails.  It is just a freedom and one can learn so much.  Can see why some do it for life until they get to old to do it anymore like Muir.  Just put me on a glacier and I will heal he said, and they did and he did for that time but it all comes to end sooner or later for everyone of course.  Not missing out this Summer.:murray:
