that sucks, i had a cactus (non mescaline kind) coming from peru to europe and they was complete illegal because they feared it would spread plant diseases (i can understand that tho) but they killed a rare old cactus because of that, really sucked

i guess you have to apply for a import permission right away. Maybe call them and say you cant read what they write and so on.

thats exactly what i did, called and left a message with this so called "plant inspection guy" saying i dont know what the hell this is about and i cant read shit on his letter.

i had no idea this sort of thing existed...but im not happy about it considering i spend $50 on the cactus and $25 just getting it over here. The sheet says it wont be destroyed until july 2...so im just waiting on this plant inspection flamer.

what exactly do they do with a cactus while it's being detained? interrogate it?

by the way, this cactus wasnt detained because its a san pedro. In Canada there's plant protection act that makes sure every plant that is imported gets checked beforehand, so I've read. anyone else know anything more about this?

yes. Shipping live cuttings to Canada is risky business unless your lucky. they dont inspect ALL the packages but if you put LIVE CACTUS on the customs form your going to get it intercepted.. It is a federal offense to lie and say its something else ..but sometimes some carefull wording will save you a lot of trouble.

They are most likely going to incinerate your cactus... See if they can Return it to sender.. which IS an option.. then ask for a complete refund and tell this ebay fellow that he fucked up. it is HIS responsibility to get the phytosantry certificate.

JLHUDSON makes mention of this Black list where only a handfull of plants, herbs, and seeds are allowed to pass internationally and all other plants are considered innocent until proven guilty. You may want to look into that.

Feck, I wrote a whole big thing out and it dissapeared. Anyway I was saying how strict the governemtn is with plants coming over the border. Order stealth, meaning don't let anyone know whuts in the box.
Ag canada has some strict rules, one is foriegn soils entering the counrty. If you order something live, it has to enter Canada with absolutly no durt on it. I enquired about importing noni trees into canada, It would take like 90 days and cost around $3000 for my 2 trees. And, if there is a speck of durt on it, she gets burnt.

Sorry to here yer probs bud, look around Canada, there have to be some suppliers of it out here. Where are you lacated?

Peace all.

search google, theres online stores located in canada that sell both seeds and buttons (alive). i think the buttons start around $30 for a few cm across. personally i would just order 100 seeds and take care of them for a couple years till they are adequate size for grafting. then throw em all on some cereus/trichcereus or blue myrtel
