MycoBag and Honey water syringe, Help Please
    #2774328 - 06/08/04 09:38 AM (19 years, 9 months ago)

I have just filled 4 large mycobags with simmered red millet. What i was wondering is if i should seal them before i PC the bags? I want to have air in the bags but i dont want them to burst in the PC if i seal them first. But if i wait till after i PC to seal, i feel that i risk easy contamination. Info needed please add good links for me to research, i have looked but didnt find much!

Also i tried something new for me. this is how i plan to inoculate the bags via 3 mycelium honey water spore sryinge I heated up distilled water and added yummy organic honey (about 1 Tsp per cup of water) after it cooled in the microwave a bit i opened 2 new sterile syringes and over my heated oven 1/4 open. I sucked in half honey solution then, removed the needle from a spore syringe and sucked in 3cc of spore solution. Same for the other fresh syringe. Finally i sucked up honey solution in to the spore syringe filling it up. Ok so now i plan on letting the syringes sit for a couple days then to the mycobags.
Any comments worth noting?

If you have the right air filters on the bags, seal them first, if not, seal after. Air exchange = key to not popping bags

i belive the bags are of the classic mycobag style with lil square filter patch, when i inoculate i insert needle into patch then seal hole with a dab of silicone

Yes, or go throught the bags plastic, to save junking up the filter.
Silicone is a must still.

So, if the bags have filter patches, you can seal before pcing.

Loki, so the filterbags from mycosupply shouldn't pop if you fill with substrate first? Have you (or anyone reading this) done this rountinely without any detrimental effects? If so I may save myself alot of money making a flowhood in the interest of impulse sealing (post pc) safely.

I know there were problems with some filter patches not
working, so bags were popping, but i think thats all
been sorted out now, so as long as there modern bags, there
should be no problem, hopefull mycobag can pipe in here to confirm.
